Anyone have any specific knownledge on snow tires?
I'm looking at picking up a pair for my rear tires this winter. I have a feeling it's going to get upgly around here and want to be able to drive my little 2wd truck. I'm going to pick up two new rims and mount some snow tires on them.
Any suggestions?

I got a magazine from tirerack.com and they seem to have some good selections. Check them out.

For excellent traction in snow go with BF goodrich all terain T/A's,they'll get you through the worst of it,also you probably know but I'll mention it anyway with 2wd you will need some decent weight in your box for traction, being from the frozen tundra myself i always carried sandbags .Chico.

I'm going to be packing up on sand.
I should be able to make it through the winter with good tires, sandbags, and a shovel in the cab.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks. Those Blizzaks did look good on TireRack.
I'm just getting some rear tires for the winter, then come spring I'll replace all 4 with some all season tires.

Snow tires aren't designed to last for many seasons. After 2 seasons, they loose their effective layer. After this, they aren't that good. You will notice many ads for used snow tires say "only used two seasons". Also, they are also only good in the snow. On dry/wet pavement they are horrible. See the "how long can they last" section: http://www.tirerack.com/winter/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=116 Note Blizzaks are considered the best.

I'll probably go with the Blizzaks.
I'm not too worried about them wearing down fast. I am expecting it. I really only need to get this season out of them. Possibly one more year after that. I'm hoping to pick up a 2006 leftover around this time next year. Probably an Silverado or an F150.

SRT is useless being 2wd. I already have that feature.
I love my Dodge. It's been my most reliable vehicle to date (the GTP was in the shop monthly). I've put 40k miles on it (87k now) and it hasn't been to the shop once. Brakes are still great and the clutch is perfect. I'd buy another Dakota, but I want a full size and I won't buy a Ram.

Silverado is a very nice truck. Drive one, you will instantly see what I mean.

I'd love a Silverado. I think GM does a MUCH nicer job with interiors than Ford does. My buddy just bought on 05 F350 Super Duty and it is bland on the inside. My little brother's Bullitt is pretty bland compared to what my GTP was.

Al little of topic...... I used to have 2 snow tires on the back of my old Fairlane......the ones with the little metal studs in them..... I'll just say, they make some good showers of sparks when there ain't any snow on the ground, and you do a burn out.....
