Maybe the negative ions make you feel so good that you drive easier giving you better mpg, or you just don't care.
I saw this a few months ago and showed to my boss who is an electrical engineer so he could debunk it for me. He was just as puzzled as why people would buy this, and how they could advertise their claims. He would love to corner their engineers and ask how this works in technical terms.

Theres not enough info in the advertising to make any kind of guess as to what it is. As others have said, apparently its a capacitor. It would have to be pretty exotic to have any real capacitance in such a small form factor. I guess maybe if you're driving a honda, your alternator does a terrible job regulating voltage, so a stiffening cap is what you need! :rolleyes:
