I have only had my car since the end of June. I assume that it has seen regular oil all of it's life, and the past 3 oil changes I've given it have been with regular oil. I've been reading about how much better synthetic and synthetic blends are, and was wondering if I should start putting synthetic in it. I've heard other things about using synthetic after the car's been ran on regular oil for all it's life does nothing. My car has about 120K on it now, and I'm just wondering if when it's time to change my oil again, if i should start using synthetic or not.

Hmm, I just noticed that I put this topic in the wrong category. Oops. So Austin, putting synthetic in after it's been using regular oil should be alright?

I have been using synthetic ever since I got my car in '03.

Nad, I've always heard that you can go from regular to synthetic, but not the other way around. Something to do with the seals leaking. I read it in Popular Mechanics YEARS ago, so maybe technology has come a long way since then.

Yeah, that's what I heard too.
You can go one way, but not the other.

You can go back and forth it wont hurt anything. And Oh I've never ran synthetic. Haven't had a motor failure yet. Knock on wood. All my failures have been trannys damn chrysler products. Never again.
