Just found out my 98 Silverado is burning oil. and that I either have a faulty oil pump or bad pressure sensor or bad guage. Now I have to buy a direct reading guage to check my actual oil pressure. If that's good then I can swap out my sender for a new one. After that I have to do some compression tests and see if my valve seals are bad or if it's the rings that are causing my oil loss. I do know I'm burning it there are no leaks no water in the oil or oil in the coolant and I have some smoke when I rev the truck up. Man I hope it's the seals that way I won't have to have the motor yanked and rebuilt. If that's the case I just might look into trading it in on a newer 1/2 ton. Man I hope it's the seals I only have two more years to pay it off. Or I could just keep dropping oil in it and limp it till I pay it off then use that truck payment to rebuild it.

Ok maybe I jumped the gun on burning oil. I just got through checking all the plugs and they are in great shape for having 90k on em. Not one tiny hint of burning oil. Now if I can only find my oil pressure transmitter. It's not where the book says it should be. If your not burning oil and you don't have oil in your coolant and the outside of the engine is oil free. Where does 1 1/2 quarts of oil go in a month and a half? banghead

Well, some vehicles are equipped so that if your blinker fluid is low your car transfers oil to replenish it. 'Cause blinker fluid is just that important....

sorry, but I don't have any actual advice crazy

Just a suggestion but if your engine seems to be oil free externally take a look at your trans. and see if it not rear main seal if your trans. has engine oil on it this may be your culprit or the back of your valve covers may be leaking down making it difficult to see,as for oil seals a telltale sign is a puff of blue smoke when you first start your engine which goes away in a few seconds.

Tranny is nice and dry as well. Tranny level is fine. I haven't seen a puff of smoke on start up only cause I still get steam in the mornings here. But all eight plugs look in great shape for having 90k miles on em. Nice light tan not a hint of oil burning. By the way those stock platinum plugs hold their gap. All the gaps were right at .060 smile
