Sirius here. I love it. I have radios in both cars and at home I play it through the online player. I find myself listening more to Sirius than watching TV. I could never go back.

Why are they both struggling, competition between the two, or what. I have 6,500 songs on an ipod, and all I listen to is the radio. And one of our great stations just disappeared Jan. 1st, 2008, bummer.

Sirius is struggling because of its huge deal they made with howard stern. Plus both of them arent getting the number of subscriptions that they really need to become profitable.

Not really. Howard Stern isn't the problem with Sirius. If it was, they wouldn't have given him another 200 million for hitting a subscriber threshold. The real problem is the nature of their environment like satellite upkeep, research & development, and subsidizing the technology.

Sirius and XM lose money on every radio that they sell. If the radios were actually marketed at the true manufacturing cost, the cheapest one would be $300. Sirius and XM write off the huge costs since they're hoping that R&D will eventually start reducing the costs of the radios and the market will grow.

Both companies cite these operating issues with the real reason they need to merge.
