when I re-installed my rear spoiler I used some toilet tank washers underneath...since they are like fender washers, large w/small center hole and they give just enough clearance to let the water run away.

Nice looking spoiler! Definitely be ready for some nastiness under the stock spoiler. I still remember the crap that was under mine, it even had some scratching/damage from the grit agitating against the paint. I make spoiler removal/cleaning a once-a-year maintenance job.

I took my spoiler off yesterday, expecting to see a nasty mess. There was some dirt under there and some very minor scratching but nothing major. Just washed it off touched up the paint and put it back on.

Do you still get a lot of gunk under there even after you raised it up with washers?

Hardly anything actually. All I've done since then is take off the spoiler, clean a bit around the holes where some grit gets caught and replace the washers with new ones. Takes a lot less time then the initial process.
