Went and saw the new Harry Potter last night. Very good movie. The wife and I enjoyed it very much. Now to wait for the new book.

I'm listening to the audio book right now. I hope that the movie is half as good as the book. I will be seeing the movie next Saturday at the IMAX in 3D.

The movies are less than half as good as the books, they never stick to the original story lines. It wouldn't be so bad if they just left subplots out, but they rewrite about 1/3 of the material.

Anyway, I'm going to see the movie Monday. I also went and prepaid for one of the Deathly Hallows on Tuesday. I can't wait to get the book in my hands, although it will probably only last two days like the previous one.

Never seen movie or read the book. But I did read two weeks ago about a Theme Park Harry Potter in Disney here in Florida. That's gonna be another big seller!!!

I myself read the first 25 pages of the first Harry Potter book shortly after first came out. Got bored quickly and have never given the series or the movies any attention since.

I havent read any of the books but the movies have been pretty entertaining. I wouldnt say its my fave series by far but it has had some excellent special effects...some of the fantasy animals have been awesome and the fact that each of the kids has their own owl is pretty cool...but my hands-down favorite is Dumbledore's Phoenix "Fawkes"...and boy would I love to have one of those (but I'd settle for a Firebird)

I'm not a Harry Potter fan, but this is my observation just from talking to people.

I don't know why the movies are correlated with the books. I think it's one of the things that leads people to be let down. The author obviously fits a lot more into the book than could ever be in a movie. What's wrong with having two movies that are only based on one book?

The books build up to a climax at the ending. There is no real way to make two movies on one book, because the first one would be really boring with little action, and the other would lack ground work for the action. As I said, they'd be fine if they just dropped subplots and stuck to the story line.

Case in point is the last movie in the scene with the dragon. In the book, the dragon did not break loose and chase him all over the school. That was a large waste of time and CG animation for a directors whim.

But there may be a less profitable outcome if it was so similar to the book. They thing they care about most is making people money, most likely.

I love the books, but I'm not a huge fan of the movies (especially the third one). I do plan on seeing the 5th movie within the next week, and I have preordered the final book. I can't wait, I just finished re-reading all the other books to refresh my memory.

You gotta remember books are for entertaining the mind where as movies are for entertaining the eyes.

Yea, but some of these movies were done especially poorly. IMO

The audiobook version of the "Order of the Phoenix" is 26½ hours long. It's impossible to have all of the detail from the book transfered to the big screen.

Like TBat, I would love to have Fawkes as well. I wouldn't have to worry about getting injured since I'd have Phoenix tears to fix me up.

Having Fawkes would be cool, but was it just me, or did he look pretty ugly in (I think) the fourth movie?

Fawkes is supposed to be a beautiful bird, and whichever movie it was, that's just not how he struck me.
