well my brother wanted to take some nice pics so that he could maybe send them to potential magazines, so i decided to tag along and snap some good shots as well and potentially use them in the calendar. So let me know what you guys think of the pics!!!!

Here are the problems I see with your pics...

Pic 1) Your brothers car is in it.

Pic 2) Partial pic.

Pic 3) License plate (although it could be argued).

Pic 4) FedEx truck.

I would like to see more of the car being the subject of the pic, and less of the back ground.

Just my $0.02 on the pics of your car.

Ridiculous or not, the rules are crystal clear...

"Do not submit your pic if there are any other cars in it, that includes deep in the back ground."

No plates.
No photoshop or any other photo editing software enhancements, other than lighting correction.

I'm not here to shoot you down, I'm here to point you in the direction of submitting a top notch pic that has the potential to win.

I will be submitting an entry myself and I would love to see 12 other pics submitted that are more calendar worthy than mine, and I will be shooting for a top notch high quality calendar worthy pic myself.
I expect my competition to do the same.

ya i know what they want them to look like but your not going to get that 'perfect' picture that is top notch calendar worthy. there will always be something that interferes with your shot. Im not ragging on the rules or austin or herc. im just stating that the pictures i took are pretty damn near calendar worthy, except for the small changes that can be made with the tiniest amount of photoshop skills. But i respect that and i will try and go take more shots tomorrow morning. Thank you for the insight Bobby.

I understand but there are lot of place to take "perfect" shot and don't forget plate cover or pontiac racing plate too.

I know mine is not that perfect car because they want GT/GTP. Mine is just Se model lol

I'm not here to win this but give you exmaple like that.

The Eclipse was one of the first things I noticed...the FedEx truck I didn't notice though. lol

Now, the partial pic...eh, I understand it's the rules, but I don't see how it's a problem.

And the license plate? That is definitely up for argument...it's not even close to readable.

It's a full pic of the car, it's not a partial pic.

Rules clearly state no partial pics. Your pic is a partial pic, be it 1/16th cut off or 1/1000th cut off.

His pic is clearly not a partial pic. It is a full pic of his car with his car being the subject of the pic.

Gotta be honest with you Austin, this calendar thing should be fun, and you're killing it. Not trying to get myself in trouble or anything, but this is going way overboard.

While we all want this calender to look good, I kinda think you're taking it TOO seriously...how does everyone else feel?

I don't have any problem with Austin's rule but I can understand if no one have plate cover or pontiac cover. I live Ohio that must have two plates. I just screw them for front plate. I have seen lot of sport cars never use front plate. If you don't have plate cover or pontac cover. Maybe Pontiac or Grand Prix frame might help?

The front plate I'm cool with, after thinking about it. I'm talking about, for example, saying it's a partial pic when 98% of the car is showing, or saying it's got plates on it when they are slightly visible and totally not legible.

I am kind of curious, though, why he has a plate in that pic and a plate cover in another...

As long as the plates are illegible. If one letter or number can be made out it's rejected.

Come on people the rules are very clear.

We are trying to keep this as top notch as we can plus we even limited membership eligablity to prevent people from joining the board just to get in the calander.

Just look at the number of active board members there are 12 spots for winners. Odds are pretty good as long as you stay in the rules. Plus all calander worthy submissions will be on the cover. So as long as you follow the rules your car will be in print.

We havent started taking photos you still have plenty of time to reshoot and plan out your photos.

To clarify the no partial pics.

The car must be framed by the foreground and background. Palsuts pic and snowriders are good examples.

If the car goes off the edge of the picture it's no good.

I completely disagree.
Herc and I came up with the rules that are posted. The rules are crystal clear and as I posted in the rules, no gray areas.
I don't think I'm the one who is killing it. I think it's being killed by those who seem to want to make every attempt to not follow the rules, and the gallery that's cheering him on to not follow the rules. I've been in discussion with 01GT and he knows exactly what my thoughts are on his pics and how I would improve on them.
I'm not making up the rules as I go, they are posted and will be followed to the letter. There is a rule in place that states no partial pic. Some seem to think that means 98% of the pic is okay. It is not. 99.99% of the pic is not okay. 100% and only 100% of the pic is acceptable.
I really don't understand what is so hard about following some simple rules.
Ganging up on me about some broken rules will not get anyone anywhere. This is a level playing field. Everyone will follow the same set of rules. There will be no exceptions.
So far there have been two fine examples of what we're looking for.
I would suggest everyone go back and carefully read the rules that are in place. They are crystal clear, black and white. Please do not try to create any gray areas.
If you have any questions about a pic you're wanting to submit, feel free to ask for mine and/or Herc's ruling and be prepared to accept our ruling as it is. Herc and I will have the same ruling on the issue so it doesn't matter who you ask. If one of us is having a hard time coming to a conclusion with your issue, we'll contact the other and if necessary we will bring in a third party and put it to a vote between the three of us, just be prepared to accept the ruling as it is.

Hey guys,

Beside the two pictures posted in here that are good examples ...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say here are some pics of what would be approved for our calendar. Road & Track
There are nine pics there, but not all of them would be approved. Can you spot the two that would NOT be qualified? If you can, you're on the road to getting a good pic of what Austin and Herc are looking for! cheers

Don

The reason is because i was in the process of parking my car so that i could take the front plate off and my brother snapped the shot and i didnt even know it. but i will go back down there today and take more shots.

Out of that set I would say pics 2 & 3 are the best (pic 2 being the best of all), although I wouldn't set any of those choice in stone as to which one would be submitted.
You're more than welcome to not listen to anything else I have to say, but I would suggest not having the sun roof open all the way. Closed with it opened in vent mode looks much better than having it opened all the way back but closed in my opinion always looks better than having it opened at all.

You're on the right track and pics 2 & 3 look a lot better than anything else you've showed but with plenty of time to take more pics I would keep trying. Maybe one of those will be your best shot, I would just keep taking pics.

its the moisture inside the headlights. I sealed the headlights with silicone and it still doesnt help anything. After it does that i usually take the plugs out that are behind the capsules but that helps it sometimes but other times it never helps it!! ugh its frustrating! banghead banghead

First off, Austin, please understand I'm not trying to cause trouble. That's not at all my purpose here. I just want to voice my opinion, that's all.

It just seems to me that you really don't care what we have to say. There's no way we could voice opinions, and have the rules edited?

From the link northtnguy posted, the Porsche is an example of what I mean. That is a bad*** pic, and it definitely worth of a calendar. Why does it have to be 100% of the car, if you can get a calendar worthy pic of part of it?

Again, I'm not trying to cause trouble. I want this calendar to be awesome. But it just seems like it's overly strict, and not fun. Everything anyone says you shoot down.

What I care about are that the rules are followed, to the letter. That is the purpose of having them.
Yes you can voice your opinion about what you disagree with about the rules, just don't expect to have the rules changed just because you're not happy with one of them.
As I've said before, These are the rules that Herc and I came up with and we both agreed upon them and they have been set in place and if you want to submit a pic to be voted on, you must follow the rules just like everyone else who will be submitting a pic.
There have been two fine examples of pics to be submitted. Neither one of those people had any problems what so ever following the rules. What kind of a disservice do you think I would be providing to someone who follows the rules if I allow someone else to not follow the rules?

That last sentance is utter BS. The rules have been tweeked at the request of members rules have been added. But when it comes to partials sorry it's not going to change.

This is the last time myself and Bobby are going to address this rule.

Those that have a problem with it you have two choices. Suck it up and abide by it or don't participate.

We have a small committee to run this endeavor if everyone is involved nothing would get done because 100 different people have 100 different ideas and things just get bogged down.

okay so maybe i'm just an idiot but i can't find the second wrong picture... the 911 is a partial but maybe the first with having the jet in the picture is wrong or the last one looks a lil photoshopped with the side scene maybe

Come one guys ... quit giving Herc and Austin grief about the rules. When you sit down and really think about it, there aren't that many rules that you have to follow. Have fun with your photo shoots! laugh That's what it's all about.

Go to a park or a deserted road, find a good spot and use your imagination ... don't have any other cars in your pictures ... you're wanting to make your car the 'star' of the pic. If you want a pic of the back of your car, take off your rear license plate, if you want a pic of the front of your car, take off the front license plate (if your car has one) ... what's complicated about that?? confused

You've got all angles that you can shoot your car from ... high, low, eye level ... get down low and get some shots ... take a step ladder with you and get up high ...use your imagination, but have fun while you do it!

Rules? Yeah, there's a few rules you'll have to follow, but not that many!

Y'all have the easy part to do. Can you imagine how much work Herc and Austin are gonna have creating this project for you? They're the ones that are going to put it all together after the votes are in. hammer

wait, I thought partial pics meant that if your taking a side or front/side shot of the car then it couldn't be cut off?

But does this mean that you can't take a pic of just the front?

like this... (except for the license plate, I understand that bit)

R. S. other then the plate that is fine.

No partials means the car must be bordered by the fore and back ground.

Full frontals, full rears, quarter on, overhead, underneath, profile as long as there is a border around the vehicle it's acceptable.

How difficult is that to understand?

But does this mean that you can't take a pic of just the front?

like this... (except for the license plate, I understand that bit)
I think that picture would probably work ... all of your car is in the frame. (But I'm not Herc or Austin, they have the final rule on this.) I think the rules say "No partial pics of your car". To me, that would mean exactly what it says ... just part of the car in the frame is a no-no. Now, if you had been so close to the car in your pic that you cut off part of the tire, that would be a no-no ... that would be a partial pic.

I do have a problem with the "Boost gets you laid" decal on the front windshield, and I can almost promise you that Brian would not allow it.
You'll have to get an angle where the decal does not show.

Rule number 5 has now been updated to not allow the display of any sexually suggestive material.

Yes it is. Not one single bit of the car is cut off by the edges.

I can respect that, I was just using that picture as an example.

And Herc, if that 'full frontals and rear' was in part of the rules I am sorry for missing that part but thank you for clearing it up.

It wasn't spelled out in so many words but that is the intent of the "no partial".

I'm still in the process of scouting a suitable location for my photoshoot. I also have to get my grilles installed but I just wanted to add that I dont see any problem at all with the rules as they have been laid out. If you consider most of the car calendars that you see for sale every year, they are made up of very high quality pics of exotics or hot rods that focus on the car itself. I mean isnt that why you pay money for a car calendar?
I see this as a venture to create a similar quality calendar of our cars that can stand on its own with pride. If it was slapped together with any old thing we cranked out the when we got the finished product it would look cheap. Keep in mind these pics are gonna get large and when you hang it on the wall the flaws will show up bigtime. I'm married to photographer so I've heard lots of this before and I dont intend to criticize, I'm just saying if we stick to the letter of the rules now we'll be happy we did later.

btw, what is that building in the background of your shots with the swooping lines...very cool looking place cool thumbsup

I know that there are always questions that come up when rules are made, but seriously these rules arent hard to follow. Print off the rules and take them with you to your photoshoot. Apparently you're forgetting what they are on the way there. This is way too much drama over a picture.
