Yep. I went ahead and bought this monster for class. Problem with the freakin thing: I have no idea on how to switch between fractions and decimals. Anybody have any advice I can use? I've already contacted TI, but so far no response. Thanks yall.

Its the TI-89 the regular one not the titanium, I just firugred that they were teh same sry about that. Did you know that with these calculators you can type programs into, like notes for a calss. I use it on my phyics test, I load all the notes into my calculator and have them all there.

Yeah, I read that, I am yet to try that adventure. Youse a braver man than I. I'm pretty sure that if I try to type a program into it, then try and execute, the thing will scream at me, grow legs, then jump off the table. I KNOW this would happen.

If your problem is that its answers are usually in annoying fractions, then...
Go into MODE. you have it set to EXACT. change it to AUTO or APPROXIMATE.

if you're talking about converting, well you can easily convert fraction to decimal if you're in the mode above^, or put it in the other mode and it will go backward (but you'd have to be pretty exact on the decimal, like 0.125 to spit out 1/8 ).

The 89 titanium is a GREAT calculator. What are you using it for?

RIGHT NOW...intermediate algebra, but I'm aspiring for a Baccalaurate of Electrical Engineering.
I had already tried going from 4/9, APPROX, Enter three times. I got .444444
I had entered .444444, APPROX, Enter three times, I got .444444
Trying .444444, EXACT, Enter three times, I get something like 111111/250000
Pure and simple craziness. I've already found Cube Roots/Variable Roots: 1000/\(1/3) is the cube root of 1000 (answer is 10)

Man, I hate math. I'm glad someone enjoys it enough to get a degree in it. I'll stick to writing documents for a living. :p

I never said I enjoy math, but there are worse things out there: not making money, not making good money, and living perpetually in poverty or near poverty, ya know?
What kind of documents you write? Technical papers, legal...

I'm nearing completion of my B in electrical engineering... its being stretched out as of late due to some research stuff and doing the physics minor, though.
You better like math, cause you have a lot more coming! haha.
If my memory serves me correct this was the order of maths for my deg.: calc1, calc2, matrices, differential eqns, multivariable calculus, statistics/probability. Also, pretty much every other class is math-heavy, but is applied to interesting things.

Definetly go for the electrical degree as long as you can swing the math.

I enjoy math. There I said it.

I bought a TI-89 in college, but it's been collecting dust ever since I graduated. Actually I think my wife has her old one too.

For right now, I'm only in Gen Ed. I need to hurry up and get my ASGS before I end up PCSing (or job transfer) and lose some or all of these credits. I do find math challenging, and for that reason alone do I enjoy it. There's no way some writing on a piece of paper is gonna stop me, especially after these 28 years. Zuul, aint that the truth. Just more challenges that I get to rule over, ya know?
