Well I saw Lonezergling post a model of his torque star wheel so I was bored and thought i'd make one, i couldnt seem to get a nice polish in max on the wheel so I may need help from some of you on here that are good at it (boosten). Heres some of the pics, i used autodesk 3ds max 2008 to model it.

And the "BF Goodrich" on the tire seems to be backwards for some reason. nice detail though

I would add the chrome but i cannot seem to get a good chrome texture, i need some help. Those textures were thrown on fast just for a quick render, im actually going to make my own here soon.

Alright, it's time for round 2!

Softened the mesh at the spokes, rendered with a chrome texture. Added sidewall buldge, though the tire could really use some real texturing.

Once I'm done with my next little bit (should be soon and I'll post it) I'm going to take the model out of SketchUp and into blender.

Then I'll be applying a full texture and UV map. I just need to figure out how to apply the chrome texture to the UV-mapped model. But I've got a pretty good idea how.

You need to teach me how to do chrome textures, ive seen a couple tutorials but none have gotten the look i want. I do know though that chrome is effected by the surrounding enviroment so ill have to find myself something for it to reflect off of.

BTW, let the battle begin! smile

I do enjoy yours lonezergling better then mine considering yours seems to be more equal all around all all the spokes, one of my spokes is just to big, ive got to fix it...

This is what i've been working on:

Well, to be honest, I started with a pentagon over a picture of a torque star. Traced the lines for one of the spokes. Built up the spoke and leveld it off.

Then, copy-rotated the spoke 72* 4 times, and viola! I had 5 equal spokes.

Except I screwed something up and they aren't all PERFECTLY rotated, so anything I change on a spoke, I have to manually change on the others, and sometimes they aren't the same in that area.

Thats very nice, I've wanted to work on something like that if i ever could get some time to work that much on 3d modelling. I should def get ahold of that guy and ask some questions.

I'd like to apologize for the abrupt ending of the video. That nasty weather forced me to power down and unplug, thus killing the 600+ frame video about a third of the way through.

Short walk around of the chrome rim.
