I've been working on this for a few weeks now, but not very consistantly. It's my very first 3D model and I'm using Google SketchUp. It's free, otherwise I would have used something like 3dsMax for acutal usange in games and stuff. She's only armed with a pair of LRM15's right now but I'm looking to load her out with either a pair of PPCs or Gauss rifles once I get the arms done. Probably 2 machine guns and two small lasers under the nose too.

and what about heat sinks? what kind of "avionics" are you gonna have in that thing?

As far as the heat simk, I'm going to follow the MechAssault 2 model and have an upside-down U-shaped heat-sink on the back.
I also don't think I'm going to equip her with anything, but maybe a laser AMS system. I need to get ahold of a copy of MechWarrior 4 because I don't remember any of my specs other than height and tonnage. I'll decide on avionics and extra heat sinks one I figure out weapon weight.
I'm also considering mounting twin A/C10's on each arm. Not sure though. I have seen models with rotary A/C5's on the right arm so maybe...

She's "armed" now but still haven't decided on her load-out quite yet. Does anybody know of a program where I can load this model and add like, lighting effects, and laser beams and crap?

That's awesome... Used to play Battletech with a friend of mine in college every once in a while and then I also had the Mechwarrior game for the PC back before I went off to college.

I've got a render going right now. She's going on the 35 minute mark soon. The lasers are NOT the right color, I know. I had to use a different program to render it than I did to model it so all of it is quite new to me again. So, the lasers shoot be purple and glowy. We'll know in another half hour or so. EDIT: Sorry, I go caught up in it. Here's a few renders. I'll have some better stuff later this week...

It's Mechwarrior stuff. I was never into it, though I did play a bit of Mechwarrior 3 way back when. Using a joystick was perfect... walk with the stick and twist the torso with the rudder.
My modeling was limited to Operation Flashpoint. I have a copy of 3DSMax, but I've never gotten around to learning how to use it. I usually get mad at how the stupid blueprints won't line up and I quit.

That's why I really like my modeling program, Google SketchUp. It's free and and very basic. I'd imagine it's great for architectural stuff because it's very easy to make linear objects. However, organics are a PITA. Even makign a sphere is needlessly difficult. And then I'm using Kerkythea as my rendering program. It's also free and I'm VERY impressed with it. There is so much to it for being free, I can't imagine what else it could have to warrent buying it. Oh, here's a pic for ya Corey, it's a figurine o a Mad Cat so you can see a little bit of a comparison. Did a little experimenting on the missle racks. I'm reducing the poly count from a rounded cone to a hexagonal pyramid for quicker rendering but i think they still look pretty good.

Built/textured that model in 6-8 hours today. Vulture, standard loud-out of twin CLRM 20's, 2 Clan Large pulse lasers, and 2 Clan medium pulse lasers. Currently rendering an environment shot and soon after, action and weapons' fire renders...

I like that one better. The texturing is better as well. I think it's time for some MARPAT.

Marines Pattern. It's a type of camo.

If you can get me a few samples of it, I can quite easily make it into a texture... Here's last night's-this morning's render. Still working on the beam effects, they aren't working like they should...
