My first car was a 84 volvo 240GL, got rid of it because of smelling burnt oil all the time and plus I just wanted a newer car.

2nd car, 95 Hyndai Elantra, worst car I've ever had. The tranny went out on me while I was on the highway but lucky me I was near the shoulder and boy was it a cold night.

Current car is my 02 GP, Best car I've ever owned far as reliability. Only problem I have with my gp is the suspension goes bad real quick for some reason, but other than that its a good car.

it has been something to keep me out of trouble, so my grandpa used to say.

I have only let 1 car make it to the salvage yard, and it went right back to where I bought it from! the LTD convertible was from the boneyard to begin with.

Its a really bad habit, trust me!!!

I have made a few bucks on some of the sales, sometimes break even, and once in a while lose money.

But I don't have a real answer to your question (why so many).

and I have owned all of them.

I'm a firm believer that if you keep your expectations low, you'll usually be pleasantly surprised. That's why I've loved every car I've owned. Plus I could never go to a slower car. So, I started with the SLOWEST car so I could work my way up.

1981 Toyota Hoop-D (ah, Tercel): FREE from Dad - got it at 325k miles, blew head gasket by 328k. Power nothing. Great car to learn stick on.

1983 Peugeot 505sti: $300 with blown head gasket. Fixed it for less than $100. Got it with 120k miles, dropped tranny doing unplanned off-roading at 185k. Power everything. Wonderful suspension and heated leather seats.

1987 Peugeot 505sti (see a pattern?): $800 in good condition w/180k. Gave up on keeping up with repairs at 220k. Love those seats!

1989 Peugeot 405DL: $2000 in mint condition w/58k. Expensive I know, but it was a graduation gift for college. Fabric seats, ughh. T-boned while turning left by a dumb b*$tch who was passing 7 cars at once at 112k.

1991 Peugeot 405mi16 with modded top-end: $1500 in great shape w/104k. Paid for by the dumb b%@tch's insurance co. Puts the other Peugeots to shame. Eats most non-turbo 4 cylinder tuners for breakfast. Still have with 140k.

1990 Chevy Lumina: $200, future wife was the 2nd owner, I was the 5th, small world! First V6, WOW what a difference! Beater car. About 1 in 20 times you'd have to talk nice to it for 5-10 minutes before it would start. Seriously, I tried fixing it, hitting it, yelling at it, only sweet talk worked. Sold it for $200 after getting my GP.

1998 Grand Prix GT: $2850 on Ebay 2 years ago w/98k! Decided I needed one after the wife got her '99 GP. I can't say enough about how great these cars are. Sure I've had to do all the normal GP crap just to keep air blowing on me in the last 2 years (ignition switch, resistor, blower motor), but I love working on these cars when I have to. Done the Magnaflow DP and Dynnomax exhaust. Hope to do more. Currently has 128k.

1976 L-82 Corvette, 4-speed: $7000 with 58k. It may be one of the slowest vettes ever (thank you CAFE crap) but it's still a blast to drive. 100 mph in 3rd going around back road curves! That car is glued to the road. Just think a 5.7l 350 V-8 with the same HP as my non-SC GP, scarry!

1985 Nissan Sentra 1.6L 5-speed, Red. Great for running through the middle of the desert west of Phoenix. Parents sold it while I was in AIT in GA.

1996 Dodge Neon Sport Coupe, Black (Snake Eyes). Destroyed by electrical failure and long collision sequence. Purchased and destroyed at FT Campbell, KY

1987 Oldsmobile Calais, Champagne ('Lisha's Toy). Last I saw, she parked it after battery and alternator died. Purchased in and still sitting in KY.

1996 Chevrolet Beretta, Red (Janna). Destroyed while trying to avoid rear-end collision with pregnant GF in car. RIP Janna, you are missed. Purchased in Phoenix, destroyed in Savannah, GA

2000 GP GT, Red (Colleen). 150,000 miles hard, reliable service. DD for me and my family. Purchased in Savannah, GA and currently serving in Lufkin, TX.

1985 Pontiac Firebird SE, Kinda Red, kinda Green (Belen). Supposed to have been my DD to take miles off Colleen and allow the family to just GO if they want to. LS1 very likely to be in the near future. Purchased in Las Cruces, NM and currently awaiting service in Lufkin, TX.

'88 Cut Supreme. White with sunroof and gray cloth interior. I LOVED that car. However it was a maintenance nightmare. After replacing the brakes twice, suspension once, alternator twice, and body work from a car accident, I had to get it go.

'89 Olds 98 Regency. Total grandpa car, but it got me through college. It had the most kickass DIC I've ever seen. I swear it could do my calculus for me if I wanted it to.

2002 GTP. Bought it when I graduated college. Still drive it.

That's it!
