When I was in AIT at FT Gordon, GA, I had finished my soldering test early and was just burining time and solder. The instructor sent me out to find a set of BA-1100/ns. I went out looking for these batteries (the Army lists it's battery numbers as BA-something). I got a lil confused, but got the balloons that he was asking for.

I was then asked to find an ST-1. I wondered around that school house for like an hour. I got so confused and turned around that I went to sit down in the classroom. That was for lecture. Had nothing to do with soldering. AND I still had that ST-ONE...STONE in my hand.

I was 18 at the time.

On the ship you send the new guys to get a bosun punch. My favorite is the left handed crecent wrench or a bottle of propwash.

box of grid squares, chemlight batteries, ID-10t, PRC-E7 (said out loud, Prick E-7 or mean Sergeant First Class), BA-1100/ns, ST-1, blinker fluid...

The Army used to do Prop Wash until one smart private decided to go to the nearest Air Force base to pick up a 5 galloon tub of cleaning solution for the blades of a C-130, ironically enough.

I've told one of my Soldiers to get an exhaust sample of the HMMWV and the LMTV. Shoulda seen them out there tryin to trap exhaust fumes in a tiny lil sample collection bottle. It was great.

Problem with all these jokes, though, is that sometimes the Soldier wont take your guidance seriously. I told another one of my Joes that he had to drain the air tanks of the FMTV vehicles to prevent freezing water from bursting the tanks, lines, and fittings. He thought I was kidding. Until I had his silly self out there in the motor pool in the middle of a winter wind storm replacing lines and fittings. Guess he wont make that mistake again.

When I first hit the sand of Saudi back in 90' as a E-1 right out of basic, they had some of us looking for soft spots under the tanks with hammers...it was hilarious, and something about a transverse key too..

Box of grid squares: meant as a box of maps. the north/south and east west lines on a map is known as a grid square. In the Army, it's NORMALLY a 1 square kilometer picture of the earth per grid square. Depending on scale of map.

How do you think those crazy chemists get those glowsticks to glow? Why with batteries, of course.

ID-10t. remove the hyphen. ID10t. Now capitalize the final letter. ID10T. now change the one to an I and the zero to an O. IDIOT.

The letters PRC mean Personal Radio Communications. we have a number of different radios, so when you tell a new Soldier to find a PRC-whatever, he's assuming that you're telling him to find, essentially, a walkie-talkie. BTW: ARC is Aircraft Radio Communications.

BA-1100/ns is described above, as is ST-1. Blinker fluid is popular in the Army as well, but it's becoming played out.

For simple terms in the Navy a bosun is a deckhand so if you go to the locker and ask for a bosun punch. Well your not gonna get a tool you'll get...
