Is there any way to visually tell if you have a tread separation?

Background

On my 98 Silverado I have this thump, thump, thump sound kinda like when you go over highway seams. At 25-30 it's quite noticable but as the speed picks up the frequency increases and isn't felt as much. You can't hear it from outside the truck only inside.

I guess I could put the spare on and swap until the sound goes away to find out for sure.

I hope it's not a broken belt. The BFG All Terrain KOs have lots of life left in em.

just be happy your not like my parents, the bought 4 brand new tires for our exploder, they were driving to my brothers swim meet POP had a blowout on one of the front tires, less than 100 miles, the place that did the tires said they were "underinflated" and charged them for a new one, my parents said i just had the car in here 3 days ago shouldnt you have made sure they were at the proper inflation when you put them on??

A thumping sound is usually a bad belt...if you jack up the vehicle, spin the wheel, and watch the tread across the top or bottom of the tire. You should be able to see it waver a bit... wink

Well good news and bad news.

Good news is it wasn't a tire after all.

Went to rotate the tires out to see if the sound would go away and when I lifted the front passenger side up I grabbed the wheel and gave it a shake and the tire tilted in and out a good 3/8ths an inch. Outer bearing was shot. Pulled the dust cap off and the grease was all dried out and the bearing was shot. I don't know why cause I changed both sides about two years/ 15k miles ago when I put new rotors on. Drivers side still look good. I cleaned the bearings repacked them and put em back to work.

The noise sure didn't sound like a bad bearing that's why I was leaning towards a bad tire from the sound it was making.
