I dropped of my kid at school since it was a 2 hour late start, and I live up a fairly steep hill. Well I was behind an S10 4x4, I was in the 4runner (4x4). and to start things off, the guy was going VERY slow, which is fine due to slick roads, but on hills it is nice to have a little momentum...

anyway, he sees some people he knows, and instead of pulling over to the side of the road, he stops in the lane of traffic, and starts talking to them (they are walking down the sidewalk). meanwhile I am behind him.

I ended up just going around him without too much trouble, but if I had been in a front wheel drive car, I would have been in trouble.

I am kicking myself for not taking a picture, since I had the camera with me, but it wasn't the first thought running through my head... lol.

SOMETIMES, when things like that happen, I get even, but I try to avoid that, since then I am just as bad as they are. but I could have went around him, and then stopped in front of him and parked for a minute, but naaah,

anyway, my rant of the morning, lol.

Roads were pretty icy this morning but I didn't see many people having problems, when it snows around here though, look out! It's unbelievable the number of people who live in this area that do not know how to drive in the snow.

The ones that scare me the most are the empty cargo vans, RWD and nothing in the back is a recipe for disaster. I've seen 3 of them almost flip over this year already.

There's nothing better though than watching Camry's and Accord's constantly spinning their tires from a stop with their "advanced traction control systems" as I take off with no problem at all. Driver mod FTW!

I can attest to that 98greengt, driving to work this morning on a part of road that DIDN'T HAVE ICE a guy was going 20 in a 40, and then on an icy patch towards the school some idiot was doing about 35 or 40 in a 25 (with kids around) with ice everywhere, and he almost hit one of them when he couldn't stop at the stop sign.

I hate bad drivers, and there are FAR too many around here

I can add a few more...

another CAR going very slow up a hill, they must have had studded tires, as they didn't have trouble making it up (its icy tonight). no other traffic around besides me behind them, and they were doing around 10 MPH UP the hill, and no they were not spinning the tires.

another "incident" there are 2 parking lots to my apartment building, mine is the lower level, well the upper level there is a driveway that follows long side it that leads to someones house, well they did not have much luck, maybe took it too fast? but they ended up with their car halfway off the driveway (halfway down the slope to the parking lot).

Also people DO NOT like to use signal lights here, it drives me nuts. I was at a "T" at a stop sign, 1 car coming down the hill, another one coming up the hillboth of them ended up turning onto the road I was on, and neither used their signal.

no signals, along with tapping the brakes at stop signs aka "rolling stops"(ELDERLY people mostly that I see doing this). Parking in the road to talk with others. I could go on and on.

one of my favorites is when someone pulls out in front of you in a huge hurry, then they go UNDER the speed limit, and normally there are no cars behind you when they do this, so if they waited 2 more seconds, they could pull out as slow as they please!!

people that NEED to be FIRST at the stoplight, like when you are approaching a stop light, 2 cars in the right lane, you are in the left lane but a little further back, and the 2nd car from the right lane turns into the left lane to be FIRST along side the other car, the light changes and its like a slow motion race as both cars go the IDENTICAL speed, love that one. lol

I really try to drive the correct way, following the laws, but it aggravates me that so many people either just don't care, or they are just that bad at driving.

^ I feel pretty lucky to be living here, the mountains provide a natural painting daily. I live in a valley actually, so everywhere I go I can see mountains.

oregon is a very beautiful state. if we could just weed out the bad drivers......

I like this city, and I do not like it. There are a lot of wealthy people here. (fixer upper homes go for over 200 grand on a .12 acre lot.) To even get into something that doesn't need immediate work, you are looking around 300 grand. most "nice" homes are around 500 grand+ and thats not even the "rich" guys houses. there are a few over 1 even 2 million dollars. And that may be their "summer home".

compared to the bay area in california I'm sure these homes are "cheap", but not where I grew up (Minnesota).

anyway, there are cheaper cities, but for now we live near my wife's parents, since they help us out with child care (big help!)

55 does not look like a safe speed in the left lane, more like 35-40.

Since our gp is tank on snow so straight is easy. If it is curve lane then I slow down to 20-25 mph. Of course I have all season tires too. I have been driving in snow since 2001. I never got any accident. wink

Its not your car you have to worry about. Its braking when some dumbass cuts you off.

^ that is right. even if you are the best driver on the road, all it takes is for the worst driver to make your day a disaster.

sometimes driving TOO slow will cause issues too, like driving 10mph in a 40mph zone, when all other traffic is at least doing 25mph.

with storm warnings and TV/radio I can't believe that some of these people NEED to be on the road. Oddly enough, the starbucks parking lot was full, but then again that is a necessity.

we have more snow in the forecast for tonight, so I'm sure tomorrow will be a real treasure.

ahhh I get it. It is like 1-2 inches snow on left lane. All cars are chicken to go left lane so I'm good lol Now, it is melting because of raining. yay. If it is over like 5+ inches then I won't go 55 mph because my car can't handle that. Everyone did pretty good job. I don't see any accident on way to work.
