that this is fugly, seems like ford would be able to do a better photoshop job to. Or did they out-source that to another country? Every car company makes bad car decisions. Chevy once had a 4 door vette concept.

They want to better compete with the Charger/300/Magnum market. Their market is slightly larger due to the 4 doors/family appeal. Ford figures they can sell much more Mustangs this way.
Chrysler released the brand new cars as 4 doors and told folks to get used to it and be happy it has a hemi. Since Ford always had the Mustang as a 2 door, its going to be a much bigger hit.
They could have went with a brand new car. But remember, the Mustang was designed off of the 4 door Lincoln LS. Its much more cost effective just to add a wagon in the back than to start fresh.
In my opinion, they should either a) Modify their ford 500s so they can compete with Chrysler b) Put a tail on the back of the LS, brand it as a ford, and rename it. Just don't call it a Mustang!
That's like AMC selling Jeep.

*Re-reads CNN report.
Ford just needs to put more power and excitement into their 500. People who would by a magnum want room and power.
To be honest, that second pic of the concept car looks really, really good.

Ford should have a performance 4 door...but not a Mustang. Something else, use the same engine, transmission for some get up and go, but give it another name.
Actually...the Corvette concept doesn't seem that bad...just calling it a Corvette seems wrong.

Good point.
Instead of fanatics influencing the manufacturer, the manufacturer will unfortunately listen to their uninformed marketing team.
A fanatic would yell to the automakers "Keep it 2 door!". The Automakers say, "fine." The fanatic then says, "good!" and will walk away and won't buy it.

I dont think that ford should make a wagon out of the mustang. I know dodge made the blunder of calling a 4 door a charger, but a Mustang has been a 2 door sports car for over 40 years. I think they're grasping at straws just hoping something will catch on and help their financials. If they make the mustang a four door, the mustang wont be a car anymore...it'll be a nameplate they just put on a car.

If they do this, they are going to have to fix ALOT of things. We had an 05 (until it got totaled by an Envoy that ran a red light) and it constantly was in the dealer service bay. Highly dissapointing

I dont see how changing the name will really boost sales. I know it'll be a familiar name in the line up, but ultimately most arent buying a car because of the name.

http://www.kmtr.com/business/story.aspx?content_id=befdbd3c-41c0-41be-845d-16b68ef7b35d At first I thought it was a bad idea. Thinking over a bit, guess that works. They couldn't keep going with the 500 as it was. The Taurus X looks ok to me cept it looks like a large Focus. Heck, so the the new Taurus. http://www.autosite.com/content/shared/articles/templates/index.cfm/article_id_int/2567

I don't know why they would bring the Taurus nameplate back. I wouldn't buy a Taurus to begin with. I would rather walk or roll down the hill than pay the payments on a Taurus.
