I'm thinking that if it's not a phone that is supposed to work globally that she needs a prepayed phone but I'm no expert. I'd just go to her wireless provider's store and ask the people there.

Don't foreign phones use a different kind of signal?

Do you know what carrier it is? You might not have any cell towers for them near you.

or take it to the provider and have them search for all new software patches. IRL comes to mind, but that was with *shudders* Sprint.

My phone came from Germany or Austria but has the same specs as the US bound ones. It's unlocked though, so I can put any sim card I want in it.

The card has to be compatible with the network you want to use though. i.e. I have an account with Cingular/AT&T, so my sim card has to be from them.

very few Verizon phones do have a SimCard. Which ones? Not sure, but do know they're out there.
