Anyone coming to town for the 500? I live in the area and wanted to see if anyone wanted to meet up if they were heading to the race.

I went last year, my uncle gets the pit pass from his company. I was going to go this year but stuff came up and my trip was canceled.

I'm looking forward to attending the New York Auto Show this year...I understand that Dodge is displaying their version of NASCAR "car of tomorrow" which I believe they have moved to the new Avenger body style.
I havent attended a NASCAR event since going with my uncle to Martinsville to see Richard Petty run circles around everybody in that pale blue Plymouth Satelitte (pre-Superbird days)

A tank, its not that bad. The only thing you really need when driveing in Manhattan is you have ot know were you are going b/c if you are the type to drive slow and look at shit then you will get ran over.

i cant see how you could drive any way but slow...the one time I went over there with my car it was next to gridlock the whole way. Streetlights were more like suggestions and cut and thrust was the order of the day. For the time I spent in traffic and in the Holland tunnel I could have walked to the car show. I'll just be parking in Weehawken and taking the ferry over. I can hike one block to the Javits Center...and I think we may be hijacking this thread...yeah, Daytona 500...dats da ticket.

I had no clue that the Avenger is coming back BUT... after looking at one, I am highly disapointed. I would rather hunt for a year to find an original TWO DOOR than buy that four door. Once again, Dodge screws up. kooky

I dont know why, but NASCAR bores the crap out of me. I can watch IRL all day long which is the same thing as NASCAR except for different cars, higher speed, and less popularity. Something about open wheel racing seems more exciting to me than "stock car" racing. Maybe is Danica Patrick.

at the risk of starting something (I'll apologize in advance) butI dont see the big deal with Toyota jumping into NASCAR...they build cars and trucks here and employ plenty of workers...on the flip side, is there any form of racing anywhere else in the world they we are excluded from just because we build "American" cars?...not that I am aware of...if we can play in everyone elses ballpark, I see no reason they cant play in ours as long as its by the standing rules...I would hate to see Dodge and Chevy ousted from LeMans just because we dont have a factory in France.

it just seems like more of a tradition to keep NASCAR with "american" companies

IRL used to be dominated by American companies. Now I dont think there is an american company producing engines for IRL, I think that Honda is the only one in the game. And they're probably eyeing NASCAR too.

I can see both sides of the story on the Toyota issue. I don't see any reason why Toyota shouldn't be in Nascar. It is getting to where foriegn cars are the most widley seen on the road (can't say much, we have an 04 Accord Coupe) and are very good cars. As said earlier, they have employed thousands, if not more, Americans and I guess Nascar is going for the equal opportunity thing. On the other hand, Nascar fans are predominatley rednecks (once again, can't say much... live in Kentucky cowboy ) and as we all know, they can be quite prejudice against foriegners and their products.

I am quite tired and feel like I am rambling so I hope all that made since!
