Greetings All,

OK, it's inspection time..or was (April). A few months earlier, it was determined I needed a MAF sensor. I had to unplug it to start the car until I got a new one (about two mts later). Now here's where the fun begins.

Error codes now became 141 and 171, Oxygen sensor on Bank 1 and lean fuel mixture (also on bank 1). I replaces the oxygen sensor (there are 3), the one nearest the firewall. Yippie, no more error 141. 171 still existed. I then bought a coil pack and cleared the codes. Ran fine w/o error for about 10 miles. 2 more 171 error codes appeared, and still pointing to bank 1. I bought another coil pack and exchanged another one. Now two installed, but error still exists. I just put in injector cleaner this morning when I filled up the tank, so only time (and miles) will see if this helps.

At idle, the car runs smooth. If I give it gas and race the engine slightly oner 4k, I can feel what appears to be a mis-fire. Any attempt to increase the RPM's seem to be governed. Is this normal?

171 error is now my issue. Any and all help is, as always, much appreciated.

Thanks,
Geli

Seems to me, I am not sure, but you might have a clogged cat.

Hmmm...you think? Would that cause the 171 error and/or the high RPM issue? (I can understand the latter)..

171 says system too lean. Now when you rev the engine over 4k, it's suppose to do that. It's governed. But 171, you might need to check your fuel filter if you never replaced it before. Or you may have a clogged injector......

I'd start with the fuel filter.......

The bog problem is quit similar to a clogged cat, therefore I suggested that. Not sure about 171 codes, I haven't dealt with those.

Fuel filter changed about 5k ago. New plugs/wires also at that time. If I am on the hwy and punch it, it seems fine, shifting in the yellow zone. I dunno.
Everything seems to happen once you own it outright (last payment was in March). frown I'll run the car for a few hundred miles and see if the gas crap actually works. For the $74 that Autozone wants to charge for the CAT, maybe I get one anyway.

Don't just buy one to buy one. So you meant you rev say in N or Park and it stops at 4k. That is a GM safety feature so you don't hurt the engine. That is normal.

Yea...Park and rev. I thought it might be a safety issue. I believe it might be a clogged/hung jet 'cause there are times while cruising at 50-80, the car hicups for a split second. Literally for a millisecond. Then all is fine. I'll save the bucks right now and wait for a few miles. If error is still present, I'll rotate a new jet on bank 1 and see what happens..

Do you have any mods on the car?
