I honestly think that there are people at the EPA that are bitter and a little vindictive over things of the past...Like the govt relaxing CAFE standards several years ago and the exemption of trucks from having to meet those standards as well. GM milked the truck and suv for cash cow for all it was worth and now they are making workers and the rest of the public who bought these vehicles take it on the chin.

As a result I think the people who work for the EPA know how much of GMs future is riding on this car and they are giving them grief on purpose just because they feel like they should have gotten on this ball a long time ago. While I agree that the domestic automakers should not always be the last to the party when it comes to making better and more efficent cars before they get their backsides against the wall, I also see no reason to hinder the release of a car that many in the public are waiting for.

Tbat as much as I'd like to agree with you on that I just can't. It takes way too much brain power to come up with a way to enact revenge on a company. You give the people at the EPA way too much credit.

It's just some moron who doesn't know the difference between a hybrid and a gas electric.

Navy has used Diesel Electrics in Subs for years. Is the sub Diesel powered or electric? Easy it's electric only it carries it's own generator. The Volt is the same way.

GM just needs to get their engineers to talk with the gumbas at the EPA and show that the car will not run the engine to maintain a 100% battery charge. Your average commuter will more then likely never need the gas motor on a dailey basis since they can plug-in once they are home.

Some one needs to take an EV1 and put a portable generator on it and then ask how would you rate the vehicle now? Since that is what the Volt is. An electric car with an onboard generator.

Maybe that's how GM needs to sell it to the epa. The gas engine isn't a powerplant but a "portable" generator.

There are no EV1s in existence any more... At least not to the public.

Yes, there is one in the henry ford museum, and a few that went to universities (who were subsequently sued when they brought them back to the open road). Anyhow, .
