Hi, I saw a BBC documentary about this family and is really sad how people use their rights for religion and opinion for something as stupid as this. But as Herc said, they have the right, and as I said in a similar post years ago. Your soldiers are fighting and going down far from their families in those countries to defend americans rights, as this people's, so wouldn't it be contradictory to want to shut them?

I don´t think any religion in particular is dangerous, is fundamentalism what is stupid, in any matter, politics, love, religion, etc.

I'll play devils advocate this time. I do not agree with what any of these people say, but did you ever stop and think that maybe we have bred this hatred into these people. Why do you think that they hate us? They don't hate us because we have freedoms and different customs, they hate us because we have bases set up in their countries, they hate us because we meddle in everyone's business when they don't want us there. How would you feel if China came over here and had tanks a few miles from your house. They are not they big bad evil people while we are angels.

We didnt have any bases in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Somalia before SEP 01. We do now. Why? Once bin Laden was routed, he left for Pakistan. Pakistan in 2001 allowed us to start setting up staging areas, that turned into bases, for the war effort against Al Qaeda.

Once Saddam was routed, the American and Iraqi civilians begged and pleaded us to stay the course for nation-building. Once the bombs started to rip through the Americans, the weak-hearted portion of our country, like the media and celebrities (who have the loudest voices) started to realize that war is ugly and suddenly wanted us to disregard their previous screams to build a functional democracy. Anyone who dares challenge them must love killing the bravest and greatest that this nation has to offer (not my words. though i do tend to agree).

Now that Iran, Yemen, Somalia, and Haiti are all in the limelight, the civilian and political populace are screaming for us to go in there and get [stuff] done. Yall do realize that 82nd Airborne is a WARFIGHTING Division, right? Same with the 101st Airborne Division, which is who I'm assigned to. WTF are Infantry and other support elements from a warfighting entity doing handing out water in Haiti while we have Yemen to set straight?

WWI: The Austrians killed the Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophia, that war threatened to consume the world, so we were asked to intervene. WWII: the Germans sank our hospital ship and the Japanese attacked our naval base in Hawaii. Korea: We were asked to help maintain democracy in the South and were told NOT to take China. Viet Nam: We were begged to help the French bail out because they were getting waxed and the South was being tortured by the VC and the NVA. Cold War/Berlin Wall: The Russian nuclear threat. No, I wouldnt want the Chinese in my backyard right now, because we have a stable government that is able to care for it's own. If my country were as bad as Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, 1955 North Korea, 1967 North Viet Nam, I would WELCOME them to stabilize us. I have my deaf classmate who live 2 hours from Iraq. He is very nice guy. His name is Shawkat. He look pretty much same as bad guys but I have known him for long time since 1999. When he saw 9/11 attack. He just can't believe his country did that attack. He feel embarrassing about that but I don't point finger at him because he is nice guy. He is not like as this crime guys do.

I just wish just nuke them and get it over but we can't do that because there are some good peoples around in the country.

Aside from the history lesson, which I learned in grade school and the barb at civil engineers, which I hope wasn't aimed at me as I have an internship lined up in Afghanistan this summer. I think you missed what I was getting at.

As to your point on "Kicking tail, American style." We are most definitely the most powerful nation in the world in terms of military power and technology, but it is impossible to fight an enemy like them. We are attempting to smash mosquitoes with a sledge hammer. If you cannot see the parallels between Iraq and Vietnam, then you need to go back and review your history. They hide in holes and mountains and pop out and take us out, there is no definitive enemy until they fire first or at least point the weapon at you (hopefully when your back isn't turned).

I don't want this to be taken as any disrespect towards the men and women in our armed forces. I have nothing but respect for all of you (my brother and sister are going in). I just want to show you the other side of the coin.

The one and only way for the US to not be a target of the radical islamists is to abandon Isreal and pull completely out of the middle east.
