IT'S DEAD BECAUSE YOU CAN BUY AN 2006 IMPALA WITH SAME ENGINE! The GXP is no big deal!

I have to stick my opinion in here. I just got back from an Auto Show in Motion and I had the pleasure of driving both the Impala and the GXP. I was not impressed with the Impala, neither was my husband. The exterior is plain and so is the interior. As far as power, even though it is the same engine it felt like it didn't have as much horsepower. I'm sure many people will like the car. But, it felt like a cheaper car inside and out than the GXP.

I just expected more from Pontiac & G.M.
This is were they fail, Just like the Solstice and Sky, for 2 years they show the cars and were still waiting! GM should stop making cloned cars and keep them under cover. I own a 2004 GTP and I feel they were in a rush to put it out, with out much thought! Then 2 years later the GXP comes out, This is also happening with the GTO.The GTP was a experimental car full of annoying problems,GM should by them back

Actually Rich,

GM is planning on cutting down the 'cloned' cars. I'm not sure which cars are going to be cut but it's coming. I also understand what you mean about being disappointed in the design of the latest vehicles. When I first heard about the GTO coming back out, I was thrilled. When I did my research and found out more about the latest generation of GTO, I was a bit let down style wise. I say it's because of the Monaro platform just just doesn't excite people. The engine is another thing. Good thing that is. devilgrin Let's see in '07-'08 when the redesigned GTO comes out and hopefully the Camaro. I hope GM has awoken by the not so hot response from car buyers and car lovers about the lack of designed cars.

I think it may be due to the weight which effects performance.

While the GXP and the Impala share engines, their suspension setup is entirely different. The GXP gets Bilstein struts for improved handling while maintaining a relatively comfortable ride, and the biggest difference is that the front tires are 255's and the rears are 225's. This allows the car to corner better as the bigger front wheels lessen the effect of the front "plowing".

So they are NOT clones, as Rich accused :p .

Ooo, black GXP .. I've seen one of those at the dealership in Waco; very very sleek car. The 04-06 GPs look SO good in black.

And um, Cliff, that "boring car" will hand you your ass, regardless, any day. If you don't like it, that's fine, but why insist on reposting and reposting that opinion when we already know you don't like it? Besides, there are lots of differences between the GP, Monte, and Impala. Sure, they have the same engine, but if that's all you're going to point accusations at, you should probably read up on them a little more.

Weight, suspension, exhaust restrictions, et cetera et cetera, it all makes a difference in the end. laugh
