The article states a major push in motorsports coming from GM in the near future...along with a twin turbo V6 to compete at Indy.

About time some American Iron got back in the game.

I've also been reading about how the Indy execs are thinking about making the series have more public appeal. They are experimenting with new designs for future cars. One is called the Delta Wing, shown in this link...

Personally I think that is way too "Star Wars" but I saw some online screen shots the other day of the new Red Bull Prototype X-1 from the new Gran Turismo5 game...Indy should pay attention because that is one badazz looking machine.

I dont think the wheel covers would be practical for real world racing, as well as the jet fighter canopy, but long slick windscreen would still give the effect and probably smooth the aero force on the driver.

It's nice to see GM getting back into competition. That's a good sign of things to come.

As for the indy car. That front end is narrow! I guess it'll strictly be an ovel car. What I find crazy is it weighs in just over 1,000 pounds with driver (a honda goldwing comes in at over 900 pounds dry) and it runs a 300hp 4cyl motor and getting an estimated 235mph for a top end.

I just cant get my brain around the Delta Wing...I even saw a CG simulation on one site of Delta cars lapping the Indy track and the look was bizarre at best. I much prefer the look of the X1 prototype.

I'm sure there will be those who will oppose GM getting back into racing if the Govt still owns any of the stock, but racing is great for testing new engine configurations as well as durability. Plus racing gets them back in the public eye in positive way and helps Chevy generate a performance image...which they sadly lack right now. Besides the Corvette and the Camaro, GM doesnt have much to offer unless you count the high end Caddys.
