Please advise on issues I may see with this car. It has 106k miles, new tranny, fully loaded hud and all.

Thanks,

my son has had 2. both came with increased stops by cops. mostly for speeding tickets. a few for tinted windows. we moved up from a GT to GTP. because it was "nicer". yeah right. faster is more like it.

im 22 and i just bought my dads 98 gtp. I think its safe and reliable, and pretty decent on gas. You can get a speeding ticket in any car, i got pulled over for drag racing in a ford escort -_- luckily i got off with a warning.

Nothing out of the ordinary really. It's a 00 so it didn't have the bugs of the 97-98s. Trannys seem to be an issue but it has a new one and as long as it's taken care of it should be ok. My 98 has about 135k and has had some minor issues but nothing that's kept it parked.

If you do buy it, make sure you explain that when backing up, the car must come to a complete STOP before moving gear selector to drive. This will help save your new trans. Your other issue is going to be paying for premium gas. Premium gas is a must if you are going to thrash on it or you will end up destroying a front piston. As he is young and always broke, he may not want to use the expensive stuff. Good luck, read the FAQ and search when it comes to maintenance. We have all been there and are willing to share so others have it easier.

find out when the valve cover gaskets were done, if those havent been taken care of through the recall, than it needs to be done.

if you got a new trans than the car is probably going to be pretty reliable. 106k miles on a 2000 is fairly low. probably in good shape. probably 4500 or so? if they want more, than it better be nice.

I have a 00 GT. 175+ on the clock, original tranny and mill. no concerns or problems that I didnt cause myself. Id remind you that a malfunctioning hud is not a BAD thing, its prolly just a blown bulb. My suspension was shot, so I replaced EVERYTHING at once with some pretty nice stuff. final damage was $1500. Id suggest taking a look at the car, running a check on www.kbb.com AND www.nada.com and doing a carfax as well. If everything seems kosher, then why not? Ive had my car for 8 years now and it shows NO sign of EVER retiring. ~22 MPG in the city and 30+ MPG highway with VERY mild performance mods.

intake gaskets, waterpump, alternator, starter, fuel pump. all can fail without warning. i would think suspension bits might start to get loose. tie rods, ball joints. maybe CV joints. power window motors like to die on these cars.
