Thanks for the help... Just joined and this is my first post.

I have owned my GP GT for 11 years... bought it new in 2000.
Love the car.

Welcome.

I can't help you but if you get it's either Mothers or Meguires headlight resto kit with the ball it works pretty good at cleaning up the stockers.

The only manufacturer that's worth a darn is Sonar. They offer projectors with halos in both chrome and black. Also, they offer projector headlights with CCFL halos in both chrome and black. The current price through their US distributer is just over $200 a set for the CCFLs. The distributer is in Cali and goes by the name Spyder. They do sell direct from the distributer. I called them about a month to a month-and-a-half ago. I now have the black-housing projectors and am REALLY wanting to go with the CCFL projectors so that the halos have a better chance of being seen during the day. Also consider LED or Altezza tails.

Welcome to the site!

I guess there is no way of knowing the difference between LED or CCFL by looking at the pictures shown on ebay auction?
Some dont list if they are CCFL or LED's.

I would assume that the LED are not bright enough too be seen during the day?

Thanks again for the time.

Please, call me Rick. As for the tails: I did find black housing, smoked lenses, chrome housing, and a few styles of Altezzas, but I'm not sure if all those options were on Spyder's website or not. I have the memory of a goldfish and found everything I wanted for both cars on one site, so I can't remember where I found what, but it's all out there.

To be honest: you gotta trust that they're selling you what you're looking at. Otherwise, yeah, ccfl are MUCH brighter than LED halos.

I really don't care for em, but if that's what you want, I can't tell you how to spend your money. They seem to be a good buy, though.

This is the link to Spyder Auto. They're the folks who're gonna get my money for both cars when I can get to it.

And why can't I find prices on these lights?
Would I be alright using the halogen bulbs that come with the headlights from Spyder?

I know these may be silly questions... but thought I would ask... mainly buying them for the wife that has a hard time seeing/driving at night.
I would suppose anything would be better than the cloudy lenses we have on the car now.

the prices are available, iirc, when you put the items in the cart or when you call. I got mine when I called. I spoke to a dude named Peter. Real cool dude.

As for lamp selection: I'm using H1 bulbs for the low beams and regular 9007 high beams right now. No worries if you don't use HIDs. No worries if you use HIDs with no ballast, fwik.

The very reasons that you're looking at the lights are the same ones I had when I bought my lights. The wife is a freakin BAT at night!

Don't ever apologize for asking questions. The difference between stupid/silly and untrained is, for the VAST majority of situations, when the stupid/silly person is too dumb to ask a question. That is, after all, the reason these sites are around. LOL, that and if there's ANYONE on this site that can be accused of being stupid, it's me! LOL

Ive got Spyder Autos black halo projectors on my ride. A few comments:

-Light output without HIDs is almost identical to stock. Not great.
-Mine were fine but I just noticed after almost a year one is getting moisture in it, gonna have to reseal that puppy.
-They aim somewhat cross-eyed like /\ and they intersect. It can be annoying but not much you can do.
-They bounce. There's suggestions/mods for lessening this or eliminating it. I haven't tried fixing it yet, but I need to, cause like the intersecting light pattern its annoying.

Overall though, they're well made and look awesome. They are better than the other brands from everything I read. I'm content for what I paid.

I called Peter at spyder today for prices.... but, worried on the time they last, light bounce and the cross eyed effect....

The cross eyed effect cannot be fix/adjusted?

Confused on what to do... i want them too perform as good as they look.

From what I understand to fix the cross eyed lights you have to adjust the housings and then the projectors look akward because they don't line up with the car. They end up with an ugly looking angle. The bounce is fixable fairly easy from what I understand.

It's issues like those that keep me from doing something different.

I went to Home Depot and bought some black vinyl tubing, cut it to size around my lights, and called it good. It's been working GREAT so far.

Me and my wife LOVE the output of the projectors, I don't have that much of an intersecting issue, and Kevin and Kristin Jensen did a pretty good job of sealing these things. My worry is what Peter from Spyder told me: that the plastic Sonar uses is pretty much crap. The mounting points are KNOWN to break after about a year of use. That's about where I am now: the passenger side outboard mounting point is being held in place with a zip-tie. He told me to use an OE bracket. Yeahhhhh...that worked HORRIBLY.

These are the ones I bought.
Halo Headlights
I did extensive homework on the projectors out on the market... Think these will work just fine.
I also liked the spyders, but they had a lot of complaints. the only thing they had going for them was the CCFL halos, which were cheaper than any other brand. These I bought got very good ratings from another GP forum.

I will keep you all posted on their arrival of these, before and after pics also.
Went with the black... think they should look pretty nice.

There was a forum that went down the pros and cons of every projector available (3 different kinds when I bought mine). Spyder was hands down best for execution of design, let alone they look awesome.

Good luck with them though. All that matters is you're happy.

I like the spyders... but the issue with the cross eyed light pattern was a big issue, let alone the light bounce.
They said the light pattern can be fixed... but the projector kinda come out of the housing when they are fixed and look funny. I dunno....
These I bought got better ratings.

Be sure to disable the headlight flash when the doors lock and unlock. Otherwise you'll burn up your ballasts.

Those look decent. Just not sure how the black background would look with the MGB paint.

can you get a shot from further back and without the fogs? Me and my wife are talking about these lights. We're torn between Sonar and these. What was the install like? Did the plastic brackets look weak or flawed like Sonar's brackets are? Were you advised to seal the housings, like Sonar does? How about a shot of the halos during the day? Can these halos actually be seen by day?

I have had the spyders and they are a good projector. The light output is much better than the stockers even with the beam crossing. There are plenty of fixes for the bouncing. Plus they use an better bulb an H1 in comparison to the one's that were purchased which use an H3 bulb. H3 bulbs are used in foglight applications. There are no replacement brackets for wither projector. They tend to break when people over crank on them to think that it solves the bouncing issue. The plastic on the spyders will turn yellow within a year. Happened to the first set I had which spyder auto replaced under warranty. In the end I went back to the stock lights which still look better than the projectors. The projectors have many gaps alinment gaps between the bumper.

I'll dispute the 1yr/yellow thing. My car sits outside and I've had my Spyders for over a year. They look brand new still.

I need to take pics when I'm not being lazy.

As for the brackets being weak... maybe a little, not as beefy as the stockers fo shizzle. Light bounce? yes a little... I will fix it with the weather stripping mod
Reseal... naw... the are sealed good.

Here are some more pics of the lights during the day. The LED halos are not very bright... but I only run them at night anyways. CCFL are the way to go if you plan on running them during the day.
Bought these for the reviews and the look of them... I wasnt really big on the design of Spyders (Sonar) head lamps...
I did like the LED's on the inside of these lights and how they moved the bulbs around... different strokes for different folks. smile
As for the projectors... they are bright as S**t! I put 6000k HID in them... and put 6000k in the fogs last night after doing new pads and drilled and slotted rotors. I did have the 3000k in the fogs, which I took out to make room for the 6000k.
The 3000's were very bright also, but like the look of all color matching lights.
Did not have too aim the projectors... they are pretty good.
As for the seal... they are sealed very well, no condensation or leaks for that matter.
Light bounce? a little. the buckets brakets are not quite as stiff as the OEM, but fix the problem with weather stripping.
Gaps? not too bad. (pics are with hood unlatch) and the gaps I do have, I can live with.
Overall... I would say these are worth the money... and I would (as of now... time will tell) buy these again, but in a CCFL halo.
Wired the halos to the parking light NOT the corner marker.
They took a little while for me too install with help from my BIL... We had never done this type of mod before so we took our time... 4 hours of time.... most was smacking our gums and drinking a few cold ones in the process.
All went pretty smooth...
Now the wife has NO PROBLEM driving/seeing at night... and she hasnt drove it with the 6000k in fogs yet. MuHahahahaha

Anything I missed or have some questions about install, just let a brother from another mother know.
Peace

You have a link for those?

Also you can lose the amber bulb if you get one of Sylvania's Stealth bulb. Looks silver when unlit and glows amber when illuminated.

Yeah... already purchased lights... thanks for the suggestion

Dont think either is better.... Spyders have their own problems...
think it depends on what you like the look of better.
if you buy... consider ccfl halos if you plan on running them during the day.
the led strip on these (mention and pictured above, my post) are super bright.
i personally liked the look of these and liked how they re positioned the lights.
as i stated before.... different strokes for different folks. smile
