Thinking about a '12/'13 V6 Mustang...

I'm getting somewhat sick of my '10 Malibu. Had it for 2 years almost, since it had 8k on the odo. First there were some interior issues, then I had traction control/power steering issues, which required the dealership to replace the whole steering column. Now the trans is surging under low throttle load around 40mph. It's not a fun car, I just bought it to have something reliable with decent gas mileage to drive and replace my Stratus. The Mustang is a fun car, gets 30mpg, 6spd manual, and has 305hp... 10 less than the '10 4.6 cars!

I'm probably going to go to the Ford dealership and talk to them about getting a base V6 model with the manual transmission. Looking over options, the only thing I even want is the extra pay option for the green paint. That makes the price around $22.5k msrp. I'll see about trading in my 'Bu (I owe less than $8k on it at this point) and put that toward the 'Stang. I figure if they can get me in one for around $300/month I'll grab it. I could use the '12 models as a bargaining chip if I can't get a '13 near my price range since they'll be wanting to dump those.

Anyone have any tips or info? I know what I'm looking for price range and option wise, I also know what my car is worth and I definitely know what theirs is worth. I would consider a Camaro, but I like the way the 'Stang looks better and the lower MSRP (and it's faster)... Dodge had good incentives but I can't get a manual on theirs unless it's a higher priced V8.

I bought an Optima and love it so far. There is a manual available but only with the 2.4 not with the turbo though. Its no pony car but a much better car then the malibu. We've been geting 26mpg around town and 35 on the highway. Performance wise its comparable to a GP GT only 400 pounds lighter.

It's official. In 4-6 weeks the Malibu is gone. I just ordered a '13 Mustang, 3.7 V6, 6-speed manual, in Gotta Have it Green. Nearest one like I wanted was over 150miles away. Took a few hours working out deals and what not, but it ended up being cheaper just to order one from the factory, so I did.

The dark side has consumed me. :P

why didnt you just find a v8?

*edit* i didnt realize the v6's came with dual exhaust now…that looks much better than that stupid single exhaust.

V8 is $8k more, minimum. Pushed the price outside my grasp.

Get this, the new V6s put out 305hp. A guy with full exhaust, tune, intake, ds, slicks, 3.73s and LCAs is pushing 13.11 in the 1/4. He's about to break into the 12s, dynos 291whp before he got his midpipe. There are a lot of procharged cars in the 11s and one just broke into the 10s. Add to this, Helion is about to introduce a turbo kit as is a smaller producer that is running the 10s procharged car.

The V8 has a hp headstart and of course more potential, but this new V6 Ford slapped in there is amazing. It gives me better gas mileage and if I ever want to make it fast, it's been proven to have that potential (for as little as $4500 procharged, opposed to $8k for a V8). The V6 gains peak 20hp/tq (30 over most the powerband) on a dyno with just a 93 octane tune and an intake.

I don't feel gimped at all with the V6. Ford even thought of the exhaust note when they made these cars and they sound very similar to a 350z. It's pretty awesome... They pop revving but under load it's nice.

I'm starting with a clean slate. First thing is tint. The day I made the deal for the car I went to my tint guy and got a price. Mine has no spoiler, so I'm intending to get one of those eventually. I'm also wanting some black vinyl of some kind to tone down the paint a bit and I'll be plastidipping the rims black asap.

Performance wise, BAMA tune seems to be the best bang for the buck, make my own intake, and I want a short shifter.

That stuff should keep me busy for a while without costing an arm and a leg.

19s were part of a $2k package so no. Besides people who did order it are getting grey rather than black rims for '13... go figure.

Latest info: She was supposedly built Monday and is expected at the dealership on 7/6. Lucky for me I just happen to have that Friday/Saturday off.
