Just bought it put about 100 miles on it.has 160k. Fresh oil change. Car shut off on me at a light. Battery seemed dead so someone jumped me off. Right when it started i noticed it sounded like a slight rod knock. Drove it 5 miles and parked it. Ran good other wise.
Now im knowledgeable when it comes to sbc, sbf, mopar and ls engines. Ive read alot about rebuilding the 3800 series 2. Most will say to just buy a junk yard motor..would rather rebuild cause a jy motor can be iffy to buy.
Now with rebuilding i plan on a crank kit with matching bearings, full gasket set with head bolts, new oil pump rebuild kit, new water pump, new timing set. I have all the wrenches and measuring tools.
Seems how it ran good i wasnt going to have anything machined. Was going to check the cylinder walls to make sure cross marks are still there and piston rings are still good.
That being said and im in no rush to have this done, am i going in over my head or should i just find a jy motor?

Also would a super charged 3.8 bolt right in without any wiring issues or would a super charger bolt to my na motor and run with the added compression?

Yes, a L67 does swap directly in to a GT. You'll need a GTP flash in order to make it work, but all the connections and mounts are all there. Yes, you can do a top swap from L36 to L67, and that project is discussed at great length numerous times on this forum. So long as you do not do pulley swaps without supporting mods, you'll be just fine. I encourage you to do extensive searching on this forum for that information.

I do apologize for this slow response, but this site has gone just about dead silent a few years ago. I'm the only one that routinely checks in, and even then that routine is occasional. Seeing that you just showed up, I'll make it a point to check in more often. Welcome to what used to be a digital version of Cheers. I hope you enjoy what's left of the site.
