RuneScape is free-to-play, though members have access to additional quests, skills and other things RuneScape Gold. You can test the membership at no cost with a a seven-day trial. The mobile versions support crossing-play and cross-progression when connected to PC which means you can change platforms and resume where you were when you quit.

This does not include Old School RuneScape, a version based off a build from 2007. That's been available in iOS and Android from 2018. It's the complete RuneScape that Jagex is constantly in the last 20 years.

There's an obvious demand for RuneScape on iOS and Android. More than 1.8 million players have registered to play the games, which have a mobile-friendly user interface with a new menu system, icons, text and textures. Combat mechanics were also tweaked to work on iOS also Android.

The company has filed two trademarks with the UK with one trademark for "OSRS Gold" and the other with the title "RS Gold" and informing that the company has registered trademarks that use the phrases as words. This is likely to stop third-party websites from having the ability to claim that they sell RS Gold.

A simple Google search of the term returns hundreds of websites, several of them having one of the terms in their URL, offering the currency of RuneScape in exchange for real money. The announcement came on the 13th of October, that Jagex was putting an end to "real-world trade". In a post to Buy OSRS Gold its website "The RuneScape Team" clarified that "gold purchased through RWT real world trading is a problem in any online game that features a tradeable currency."
