Matchmaking does seem to have been improved. When playing against clubs outside of the European elite, you do not seem to FUT 23 Coins be drawn towards your PSGs or your Real Madrids as often. However, the occasional Ronaldo perve can still show up as Manchester United. Perhaps that says more about the Red Devils' fall from the top than anything else.

Ultimate Team - FIFA's playable fantasy football mode and the virtual counterpart to the European Super League - now makes it easier to build a superstar team due to a more accommodating approach to how the team chemistry works. Players in the same league country do not have to be close to each to form a team for you to boost your chemistry score, plus they don't suddenly lose their football skills in the event that they don't share anything in common with their teammates.

A few will appreciate the additional flexibility that this provides buyers in the transfer market, but it's as if a significant part of what makes constructing an exciting and challenging team was taken away. In any case, FUT is still largely paid-to-win and reflects all the worst parts today's football. The interface is not as welcoming as the local Rangers bar to a person sporting an Celtic scarf.

Career mode has received revamped visuals to make it more in line with the rest of the game however it's played like before. When playing as players, there's now RPG-style rewards to be earned depending on how you behave in and off the pitch, plus you can choose to take on the form of real-life coaches and players, rather than creating your own from scratch.

What is not so clear is the constant attempts of career mode to let you play fewer football. EA had already introduced many training elements that felt like administrative, but now you also are able to watch the highlights of games, rather than the full 90 mins. For a football game this can be a bit confusing.

FIFA may not be the best game to showcase the power of your console, however there are some cool additions to 23 which can enhance the sense of realism just a little bit more such as the way the goal nets ripple, or the way that sliding tackles cause the pitch to break up over 90 minutes.

EA is keen to trumpet the impact of its HyperMotion2 motion-capture tech, which allows players to appear more real. This year, it's been used for the women , as well as males. While the physical differences between the two are not as obvious as they would be when playing male players, it's an additional step to make women's game less of just a minor inclusion.

There's plenty of room to go, though. Addition of Women's Super League and France's Division 1 Feminine takes the number of teams up to 41 but they're not able to play as in every mode with career mode and FUT the most glaring omissions.

FIFA 23 will be more representative than FIFA 23 Coins ever, then, but when you're able to embark on a career as AFC Richmond from Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso, but not as Chelsea or Arsenal's women's clubs, there's obviously still some room for improvement.
