I am interested in installing solar panels, but I am concerned about the aesthetic impact on my apartment building. I don't know if it's worth doing and if it's the right thing to do.

I think even if the solar panels look ridiculous, they are still very useful and you can turn a blind eye to the bad appearance of the apartment building.
