ok i took off my cai and washed the tube and washed the filter. when i took it off i noticed the mesh grille where the tube connected (which is the intake manifold right?)and was wondering if it would be a bad idea if i took that off and just put the cai back on?

ya possibly. even wit a filter i have seen bugs some how get through then stopped by the honeycomb gaurd

yes, that screen had to be put there for a reason from the factory, i would definitely not recommend taking it off

Some cars run rich and idle funny when off, some do not. I tried it on both my cars and they ran fine, mpg did not drop, but the GP would hickup when idling sometimes. The Monte acted the same. I decided to believe in GM engineers and put them both back in.

I haven't done it personally but I doubt there is any difference in power, at least that you can feel..maybe like a .001 hp increase.

I don't drive these cars hard. I have a Chevelle & motorcycle for that. In fact, I can not remember the last time I went 50% throttle in my car. My butt dyno says no power increase.
