I went to replace a wheel bearing. So while I was in there I noticed a CV boot with a slight grease leak, so I replaced it. Drove around that night no problem. The next morning I left a 5-mile line of tranny fluid all the way to work. I didn't notice any driving change till I was almost to work, so I just coasted there. It just revvs up and you barely move... torque converter must've been about empty. Probably lost most of the tranny fluid. Dang dexron-VI is expensive too!

Lesson learned: change your seal when you do an axle. its less than $10 and not hard.

When my CV axle failed on me, i had black greese all up inside of my rim when the rubber boot decided to tear and explode. was nasty stuff.

I had axle grease all in my hair... gross

Dexron IV is too expensive indeed

not nessearily the seal. u must be careful when pulling axel shafts. if done improperly the seal may crack, tear or come off. its mainly a hard pull and crow bar on the shaft, to remove the shaft with out worry. then install on the splines and give a good push to lock in place. give it a tug to ensure the snap ring is in all the way and there should be no leak. done mine and others many times w/out leakage

Alright, update:

Wasn't the seal. They gave me a GTP axle. Damn, and I was excited it looked beefier. It fits in, and I drove on it for 30 minutes no problem, but must've pulled out after a harder turn or something. Thank you advance auto.

So I changed the seal anyway, replaced the axle, new tie rod ends, new wheel bearings, and new heavy duty front sway bar ;-)

Quit wasting your time on the Prix and get to work on the RX-67 already! wink

Glad you got it figured out though, sounds like you're gonna be having some fun taking the car through turns now. laugh

RX-67 mini-update: waiting on metal flanges to fabricate the intake u-pipe. Meanwhile ordered a new SS intercooler and fuel logs from ZZP ($ouch). Will look great with the polished blower though. By this weekend, intake pipe and firewall modification should be done. Next step is shifter placement and then swap in the good engine and start hooking crap up.

Did you get the whole kit or just the sway bar?

Whole kit. I put the front strut tower brace on a year ago, though.

Front sway bar is a pain to access some of the bolts. Rear sway bar isn't bad except getting it out seemed like a puzzle with the exhaust in the way. Trailing arms were the hardest because of the 15/16" bolts in the aluminum hub becoming stuck. Needed torch and huge impact gun.
