I've been hearing a slight groaning sound from my power steering pump when in parking lots at slow speeds...I've checked the fluid which seems to be fine and cant see any leaks...is this an early warning sign that I'm about to lose the pump?...has anyone else had similar issues?...or is it maybe just because of the heat and load with the A/C on? (its been pretty hot here of late)...if the pump is getting ready to let go I wanna be ready since it looks like its gonna be a real bear to change.

Mine has been doing that for awhile, actually. lol Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't, right? Mine went away for quite awhile, and it never caused a problem, nor did any of the servicing it got turn up anything wrong. My power steering seal WAS leaking a few days ago before it was replaced, but it was a small leak and the car's been making that noise for a LONG time. Not to mention that leak was most likely my fault ..

Fortunately, the noise was never frequent. :s

If I run my A/C, my power steering pump goes crazy. At low speeds it starts to choke a little and really takes some pressure to turn the wheel.

Sounds like the belt is slipping.
