Hey All. I just aquired a 98 GTP and am going through the check list. I am having a hard time telling wether or not my tranny is locking down when crusing and wanded to ask those with GPs.

What I am used to with an Automatic: you get to highway speed, cruise, tap lightly on the gas, and the RPMs hardly move. press lightly on the gas (ususally less then 25% throttle and you accelerate with little RPM Movement. tap on the brake, and the lock cuts and the RPMs go up a wee bit and you have that "needle sway" as you press and release the gas.

My GTP seams to let the needle sway no matter what. Thoughts?

Also, I am throwing a P0305 Cylinder 5 Five Misfire Detected code. (And some performance issues see below) the car has 82k on it, not sure about spark plug status. the car has headers on it and I will probably change the spark plugs but wanted to check before throwing money at parts. the fronts look EZ to replace, but the rears... um... yea.

Performance issues as related to the P0305: Under full acceleration, the engine hesitates. kind of Pulses moments of "lack of power". Example: Full throttle acceleration from 30mph up... RPMs Climb, you feel a reduction of power, RPMs hold for a brief moment durring this reduction of power, then it climbs again. happens several times durring the acceleration.

How do your plug wires look?

if it runs ok now, and is getting decent mileage then i wouldnt worry about replacing the wires.

Pete,
I really can't remember what my transmission was like before I did some mods, but if you are making more power than stock, and I believe you are, it could cause the torque converter to slip more than it should (or poor lockup). I could be wrong; this is just one explaination I've had for the issue, which I also have.

My brother's stock GT stays locked up nicely, as you decribed it should.

Other reasons could be low fluid, or wear in the TCC solenoid or around it... I've heard that too.

I wouldn't worry about it unless its reducing fuel economy by a lot.

No idea on the code. It seems it might be unrelated to the transmission issue.

Rock On. Yea, I don't think I am tooooo worried about the tranny deal, but thought I would check.

The whole "pulsing power error code" problem has me more upset then the trans. you know, you hold the gas down, and it should just... go.

Missfire cylinder 5 could be a bad intake gasket.

could the cat have anything to do with it? the pev owner said at one point he believed the cat needed replacing, but usually for that you would see an O2 code.

Hey All. Error code fixed.

I pulled off my spark plug wire on cyc 5 to swap it with 3 to see if th eproblem followed, and SNAP came out the wire from the grommit. Plugs 1, 3, and 5 are now fresh new ones (as I am on the road and havne't gotten home to change out the rears) and it runs exactly as it should!!
