My buddies 99 gtp's a/c won't come on and the digital says it is 36* outside. He says that is why. What is the problem with this thing??

Sounds like it needs an external temp sensor. Here's an earlier thread on the subject: External Temp Problem As for the A/C not working, it may have problems elsewhere in the system. Good Luck! cheers

I wouldn't think that the 36* has anything to do with it as the AC still activates when it's cold to help with keeping the windows clear.

Trouble shooting the system is not familiar to me... I guess I would start at the fuse, and then call my buddy who's an AC tech.... wink

Actually if the temp is below a certian degree it won't blow cold air. The defroster uses the A/C as a dehumidifier. So if the outside temp sensor is reading freezing temps that could keep the A/C from blowing cold.

So I spoke to my buddy. He did some research, instead of using me all the time because of the forum, and found out about the sensor. However, he got an estimate from the dealer, and he went back in to get the a/c estimate done. They wanted $900 and change to fix his a/c. So he went in and bought the sensor. Went out to his car, hooked it up, and Now it works perfect. $8 bucks for the sensor. He walked back in and B***** out the tech and the folks working there for trying to charge him for something he didn't need but a $8 part.

WAY TO GO FOR HIM.... sometimes those techs just make you mad for stuff like that ... and i hate how they seem to do that kind of stuff to everyone... even though sometimes they dont mean it but it seems to happen quite a bit

Most of the cases of bad A/C they see probably actually do need the full service they quoted him. Thats the sucky part about dealing with shops, though... he would've been screwed if he didn't do his own specific research.

Glad to hear it's fixed, without needing a $900 overhaul... hammer
