Is there rly a diff other then price and that the DHP has a 2min fan on after turn off and the zzp only has a 90sec.

Quality/performance wise... does it rly matter which?

well if you buy a DHP pcm, and later either buy a tuner or have someone tune your car, you wont be able to use the file. this is cause dhp locks their bin files.

ZZP doesnt lock their files. so you can make changes later. another i would recomend is: http://milzymotorsports.com/

fan time is not all that important... and im sure if you email either company they will adjust the file to your needs.

DHP is proven and true... I'd recommend them anyday for tuning because that's all they do.

ZZP tuning is like Walmart's auto service center. It's okay and it'll probably do the trick, but it's not their specialty, so it's never gonna be AS good.

By looking at the files, the only significant difference I've seen is that ZZP eliminates every bit of the Torque Management in their file. Good for speed, bad for tranny longevity.

Case learn is matching the crank sensor to the PCM. Most don't need it.

How bad are we talking about? The people that are breaking trannys are the same ones who are out racing and performing many hard launches. Also many people suffer tranny failures afterwards not because of torque management issues but from increased line pressures. But those ones are all ready on the weak side and can't handle the extra pressure and fail earlier then if no PCM.

As for which PCM manufacterer is better they all have their differences but As for the quote ZZPs is the wal-mart version DHPs is as well. Any PCM you buy from any manufacterer is going to have a generic program cause not all cars are the same. And to get everybit out of a PCM you can you need a programmer to custom tune your PCM to your car.

I believe Bobby has used both DHP and ZZP but has since gone with the one from Canada Overkill I think.

Iirc as for DHP and being locked I think they changed there policy cause the competition isn't locking them and they were losing out on business.

I have a ZZP PCM and have had no issues and am very satisfied with the product.

I prefered my DHP.

My ZZP tune was way off for my top swap... they don't add enough fuel in, 6* KR with the stock pulley and a cam, yikes!

After I got my custom dyno tune I didn't have any knock. Honestly, I'll never go with an off-the-shelf PCM again.

I didn't like the DHP too much. It ran through the trans gears too fast. It seamed to be in a hurry to get to the final gear. My current Overkill holds onto the gears longer, which I like. The Overkill also brought my KR down to 0*.
I know I could have bought a PowerTuner and tuned it myself, but the only thing I would end up with if I started jacking around with the settings is a dead PCM. Overkill offered to re-tune my Intense for $80+$20 shipping, so I shipped it to him and let him do his thing to it and I'm very pleased with the results, although I could use a minor tweaking on it, to get it dialed in with it on the car.

I have no idea how the ZZP performs, so I really can't comment on it.

I bought the ZZP PCM over a year ago. It's now a tuned ZZP PCM, so not so much that same anymore. That PCM didn't perform great with my fueling for my cars needs. Therefore, tuning came into affect and my car is better than ever, with much increased fuel mileage and power.

a custom tune will always out perform off the shelf ones... when you think about it they need to make a program that will work for the majority of people.

almost like dynotuning, a custom tune will get things near perfict. there is always room for improvement, and also with weather changes your tune is also effected.

i will never buy a drop in pcm. im set on tuners. whatever the cost they are worth it. just to beable to set the shift points and adjust the settings the way i want is worth it. took a bit of time to learn but would do it all over again.

also with the ZZP file, most of the Tq managment settings they removed are under the performance shift section. in daily driving you shouldnt be in perf shift anyway.

Would it be safe to build up the tranny a bit before installing a new pcm?? My tranny has a little over 145,000 miles on it and I don't want it to stop now...

its always safe to build up the tranny. but just a pcm is not going to hurt anything, if anything the raised line pressure will save wear on the clutches

Well i ended up ordering the zzp pcm considering later on when i do get higher up mods i can always bring it somewhere to get it custom tuned.

Thing is its been 2 days and its still pending...

I wouldn't worry about it. ZZPs service is really good.

My only complaint about them was that the copper gasket spray for my top-swap was on back-order. I just got it last week... months after I needed it smile

Also with a new pcm is it recommended to get a new t stat? Since i also just installed the CAI couldn't hurt to get one but was j.w

I have noticed that DHP PCM shifts thru the gears pretty fast can't that affect have an on a hard launch if you were racing.

Well, when you're racing, I've always heard it's better to manually shift, anyway. Didn't someone say it put it in second until you hit about 93, then shift to third?

(And btw, I love being in a car that can hit 90 mph in second gear. My friend's four-banger Ranger can't even hit 90 mph PERIOD. lol )

i am also trying to figure out where i should buy my pcm from .... even though everyone says buy a powertuner ... i would love to buy one but for me it would be extreamly hard for me to learn everything

Well i ended up ordering the zzp.

1 they both have unlocked files so they can be custom tuned later on,
2 the diff between both are minimal
3 it was cheaper then the dhp

but honestly if u are planning on doing more progressive mods either way ur still going to need to tune it later

This is true except that the PCM is also going to allow skip shifts... and a WOT 3 to 1 downshift is hell for your input shaft and other things. Also ZZP might have reduced torque management, and the fact that its making more power... overall a PCM is not better for tranny in the end, haha.

Its always good to look around and do some research. In the end all comes down to how far u are going to mod your gp. If your going to be doing some serious mods, anyway u put it ur getting a reprogrammed pcm. But if u have a pcm for what ur running now since most are unlocked u can always get it custom tuned later on.

Naw, just drive down to daytona and get a Phoenix PCM/cutsom tune!

i havent heard a lot about overkills tunes. but what i have heard sounds pretty good. best thing to know when going about getting a pcm or tuning is to know what you want to change. esp in the shift points.

I believe DHP also has the skip shift.

Anytime you mod you run the risk of damaging something else. Thats the price you pay when you mod.
