my car is usually a really smooth ride, but lately started having this vibration. seems like it would be coming from the front, but is hard to tell. noticable at high speeds. any ideas?

I'd say get your tires balanced first.
You might have thrown a weight.

Wheel balance is my first guess.

i'll have to have it done. any ways to find out if thats actually the problem? i was thinking of jacking up the front of the car and throwing it in drive to see if i could see vibration.
or maybe this is my excuse to get new tires, haha.
hopefully i didnt screw something big up. if i recall last week on the highway there was a construction site with a huge bump that scared the hell outta me... but i don't remember the vibration happening right away.

Hello,

Something to consider....

My Blazer has a noticable vibration around 70MPH. I figured it was a tire out of balance. I took it to Les Schwab, and asked them to balance the tires. They came to me and informed me that my tires were "cupped". Typically caused by worn shocks. The wear is noticable. I've known for a long time that I should change the shocks... The rig is riding on the springs. It never crossed my mind that it would render my tires useless at any speeds over 65MPH.
Anyways..... when you go to have them balanced, have them check for unusual wear on the tires.

Later now,
Clint

That very well could have cause a weight to be thrown off.

Just take your car in (or just the tires if you are paranoid about your wheel studs getting stripped) and get the tires rotated and balanced. If that fixes it, great!. If not, then you can eliminatet that as a problem.

I agree with the balance first, it's the easiest and cheapest. Next, I would look to see if you have a bent rim which will certainly cause this too. If that doesn't help consider looking at your axle.
