Ha yeah those v6 mustangs are slow as crap. Overrated for sure. I raced a new v6 mustang on the highway with 5 people in my car and still dominated it. Got up to like 115. It was pretty sweeeet.

GTP's are limited to 126mph, unless it's been raised by having a tweaked PCM.

i think it goes without saying that any of us would have had our license pulled and the car towed, possibly jail with a misdeameanor charge IF we were caught.

that being said, good job!!

Not sure if they passed the law here, but there was talk about an Oregon law that would make it a felony if you were caught going triple digits.

GT speed limiters are at 106.
GTP's are set at 124.

PCM's do not eliminate the governer, but they raise them much higher than you'll ever have to worry about.

I've been up to about 132mph in mine. Post top end swap, just to see how fast it got up.

Mine is set at 255, checked that out last night. So when yours hits 105, it won't go no more? That is strange, maybe some did some work to your pcm.

Tire size could be a factor if you have aftermarket wheels or tire sizes other than stock... My poor little car would shut down at 119 before I got my PowrTuner...

You won't even hit 105 at the track, so once you get mods, I would worry about going higher!

anomaly: odd occurance, something way out of normal.

My gt will only do 107 before the rev limiter stops forward progress. I wanna reiterate that going triple digits is both dangerous and illegal, but that's only if you put her into a ditch or get caught. Be safe.

I know my car is just the lowly L36 butit will motor up to triple digit territory in a hurry. Its been solongsince Ihad a ticket and my insurance rate has finally dropped, I too chicken to try that kind of thing on the highway. I would love a shot at a mile long run though if there was a track near here that long.

I gotta admit that three digit speed on almost any roadway is risky business...real risky! Too many other people out there that look at driving as a secondary thing...phones, computers, palm pilots and blackberrys just to name a few. I've even seen people reading the freakin newspaper! You just never know when one of these brain dead idiots is ready to roll right into your path.
My Dad used to always say, "Cars are great things, but I dont want one to be my coffin."

Not saying to do this but, find a stretch of highway, at night, where there are trees on both sides of the road, good distance off the roadway though, and this way there shouldn't be a place to hide a cop car.

the only place i will even attempt to go to the triples is on this five mile strip of road three miles north of my town...its a good paved road...people've been drag racing there for a long long time...trafic is very little, except for the occasional tractor. but i still make sure i can see for a mile or two ahead of me before i do any excessive speeding...and i've never seen a cop there...

Thought I might revive this thread, but yeah I have been pulled over for doin well over one hundred. Here in Dallas there is a 2-lane HOV lane and me and my bro were driving on it on a Sunday afternoon (no trafic at all) and I was like "watch this" I got away with a 80 in a 60 ticket. Coolest cop I ever met haha.

A gtp at 105 mph, that can't be write because I drove my se at 110 before, I got to 105 without to much hesitation but getting to 110 took me a while, but I got there then it cut off which scarred the hell out of me because that was first time doing that and it will be the last.

I've hit 116 once. What happens when the speed limiter kicks in? I didn't notice anything, so I don't know if I topped out or not, but I was to busy watching the guy in my rear view mirror to pay attention to anything else but him and the road in front of me. hehe

You'll know it when you hit the speed limiter. All accleration stops.

I've never hit the limiter in the car but I have hit it in my truck 98mph. LOL.

110 in my GT going down a hill.

I'm afraid to do it in the GTP right now because of the crap tires and bad hub. It does get to 100 in a hurry though. laugh

heh... I'm sure I'll do it again at one point or another... I just tend to be a little more cautious on the speed side of things. Now, if we're talking about hitting the freeways like an auto cross track...

Yeah, call me stupid, call me whatever....but im the type of guy that wants to be doing something really cool (or dumb if you will) when I die. Like doing 105 hitting a squirrel, bouncing off a sign into a tree lighting the trees on fire exploding my gas tank spinning my car around 5 times and hitting a post wrapping my car around it. Cuz who else will of done that? nobody...just me smile but i guess my opinion is totally different.......

ANYWAY, my SE only does 105, even down hill, in OD.....it doesnt shut off, it just doesnt go any faster, in fact...if theres a strong enuf wind it decellerates lmao if i got a pcm for the 3.1 would i be able to go faster???? or is my engine to small :p

No kidding, that's normally how I am. I guess it was the adrenaline or something. I pulled some stupid street racing. I'd started to race the guy once, and hit 80 or so, and he wussed out. Took him a while to catch up to me, but I was watching my mirror, and saw him coming. As much as I hate to say it, in a flat-out drag race, he would have beaten me because he almost had me in the first race. But he never did get in front of me, despite me being in a stock car. hehe

When I knew for sure it was him, stupidity took over. I floored it, and my friend felt the sudden acceleration, even at 60 (I love my car. laugh ) and she knew who was behind me. So we went down the service road to a freeway, until he finally got on it, and I had to turn away from it. There was very little traffic, despite being 6pm, so that's one reason I didn't watch in front of me quite as much as I normally do. But believe me, I tried to test my limitor once before, and when my friend asked how many RPMs I was at at 102, I couldn't tell him because I was watching the road. Thank God for HUDs. lol

After that race, I was repeating "****, that was stupid. Man, that was fun." Over and over. lol It really was stupid though.

I don't know the model, but it was a Subaru. I heard the gears squish, so I think it had a turbo, but the weird thing is, I only heard them squish once. Hmm...

Stupid *** ricers. laugh I'm as anti-ricer as they come, so even though he probably had a better car, I'm still happy because he never did get in front of me. So, I WIN! cool

lol Thanks. The nice thing is, my friend was supposed to be back at her school at 6 for a JROTC commitment, but we were trying to finish a movie, so we didn't leave until right at 6. So, we made really good time. lol thumbsup

Ah that brings back memories of when I bought my first grand prix, the 98 Gt. I had a buddy at work with a firebird. We raced on a quarter mile strip of interstate in outside of town. Good place to race becuase there is no traffic what so ever at night time and becuase it is near a federal prison there isn't much police activity from the local police department. Needless to say I won in a very close finish, probably about a quarter car length.

these cars are such nice sleepers that can thankfully beat the vast majority of ricers....145 is the top ive been there a couple time n my eyes are definatley locked on the road haha.....but they get there fast just keep an eye out getting caught at that speed would be a felony

One of my friends has a Subaru WRX and his dad put like 5 grand into it to make it faster. It had an intake, chip, downpipe, catback, brakes, and wheels and tires. My car, when it was stock, still just dominated it. Those cars are over-rated for sure. The turbo lag is what made it loose so bad. That is why you supercharge cars and not turbo them.

So I'm with you acefighter...haha

I beg to differ. They are pretty fast stock. The turbo lag kills them, although it kicks hard when it spools up. The launch for turbos is key. If you mess up the launch, it's over.

Yeah I'm sure, its the hatchback version of it. He has it tuned by a tuner called COBB, and it has some stuff done to it. I thought it would dominate me until I raced it.

i have a friend with a legacy gt ... its the same drivetrain as a wrx.... those things are crazy .... at the line you load up at 3000 to get the turbo ready... and as soon as you drop it you are gone ... he was running in the high 12's and that is at a daily driver...

Not trying to call you out Kev but those WRX's are FAST as a mug. I believe they run mid-13's stock. I raced one that had a boost controller an intake, catback, and a few other things, he was pushing 24 psi and he smoked me. It wasnt even a race.

Depends on how you race a WRX. They're AWD. From a roll, you can smoke 'em cause the drivetrain slows them down. From a stop, that AWD launches like mofo, and that's mainly why they're so fast in the 1/4.

yes awd really helps them ... they just lock up... we dont even bother trying to warm up the tires and all they do is give a slight bark... and then its gone.... legacys and wrx's are great cars ... right from the factory lots of power...

It also depends on the driver. Like I said, in my race, I feel certain the other guy had a faster car, because of how quickly he started gaining on me, but he never did get in front of me. laugh

OK to clarify this, I was racing an '05 wrx, not the new ones, which I believe are a little faster. Its an automatic too. But these were his mods: Chip, D/P w/ h/f cat, and 3" cat-back. I had at least a full car length on him at about 100 and he was slowly gaining on me, but thats it.

As far as the Legacy GT, my same friends mom has one (they are subaru freaks, and its a Legacy GT Spec B) and he took it out to race it one day, and I was at his bumper at about 100 and he was slowly creeping away. That was with the throttle pretty much on the floor with the brake on the floor to keep it still so he could get the best launch with the automatic. The legacy also had a D/P so it wasn't stock, and my car had only an intake essentially. I dunno what the numbers are on those cars, but thats what happened guys. Way to be proud of your cars. wink

All this WRX arguing really depends on if you are talking about a regular WRX or an STi ...

Well, turbo lag shouldn't be an issue with either unless you don't know how to launch. Like I said, you launch an AWD from high rpms because they won't lose traction. That means that turbo will have plenty of exhaust gases to get it moving.

On that year WRX, the turbos dont kick in till about 4k RPM. The magazines described it as "wait till tomorrow turbo lag." Y'all should ride in one ha.

I launch my N/A Stratus at 3k rpms feathering the clutch when I want to race. He should be able to hit 4k rpms and dump the clutch with no issues at all. I know a guy with a 3000GT VR4, he can do 6k rpm clutch dumps and all he does is accelerate.

Bedsides poly motor mounts, still stock. However, it needs a tuneup (got the stuff) and a timing belt change. frown

3.0 SOHC 200hp/205ftlb (the reason for the high rpm launch). It has same hp as the GP GT, weighs 200lbs less, and has a manual tranny, so it puts more to the wheels. The Stratus with an auto is a dog, they're about 1 second slower in the quarter.
