Old before pic...

New after pic...

I've got a white engine decal kit on order. I'll get that on as soon as it gets here.

I was cleaning my engine bay yesterday and noticed the paint on my cover is flaking off. I wonder how well the fusion paint would work as a primer. So I can keep my cover body color. I wonder if the lacquer will bond with the fusion stuff.

I was thinking the same thing.
I did use Fusion, so I'll be able to tell how it holds up later down the road.

I think "fusion" is still an enamel based paint, which would make it "not play nice" with any kind of lacquer paint. I also would question how well lacquer would hold up under the high heat conditions under the hood. From working in the plastics industy, and being a major supplier to automotive manufacturing, I can tell you that the plastic your engine cover is made from is no ordinary animal. We compound percentages of powdered mineral and copper (these two additives make the nylon plastic heat stable up to 250 degrees) we then add an oil based synthetic rubber, which is added in two parts that bond together with the nylon with heat as its catalyst. This keeps the plastic flexible, keeping it from becoming brittle after prolonged heat exposure. I would imagine that the formulations for paint (also being oil based) are probably not far removed from this. I would venture to say that "fusion paint" is probably some variation of the additives we use to make these compounds bond...bottom line after all this techno-babble is that I dont think any thing beats hi-temp enamel for underhood use.

Looks good Austin, about the only paint I've found that will hold up in the engine bay is VHT hi-temp. engine enamel.

I was thinking about using Fusion as a base coat and some high heat paint for the final coat, but they didn't have any high heat red, so I just went the way of fusion. I'm sure I'll be redoing it at some time or another.

BTW... nice info T-Bat.
