I've been hearing the transmissions in these cars dont hold up well. how many miles before you guys started having trouble with them? my car is still stock but i've been reluctant to upgrade it for this reason.

Well, it really depends on how you drive. If you drive like an old lady, it will hold up for a long time. If you step on it a lot, then it'll go out quickly. I'm in the middle; on my old GT it started going at 145,000 miles.

Better yet, don't do any burnouts. I would say they'd last forever despite the advice, but the electronics on these trannies, PCS and TCS in particular, can cause the problems instead of the hardware itself.

Number one: Does anyone realize how stupid it looks burning out a front wheel drive? Number two: Mine has 97500 and it seems to do ok, most of the time. We get a lot of grid lock traffice here and when you go back and forth from the brake to the gas without a complete stop, it likes to jump alot. I hope mine lasts until its payed off, atleast!

Around 70k my diff and trans went. I'm pretty sure that the previous owner beat the car up pretty well. Front tires were bald, hubs were shot, and I still need to replace the CVs to fix what they messed up.

I didn't really notice it in cold weather, but if you got stuck in thick traffic having to accelerate and stop a lot, it heated up quick and started the hard shifts. It also exhibited an odd rpm shift when hitting 4th. I was convinced it was a seal problem, now I'm thinking it's a combination of PCS/TCS issues. When it starts the hard shifting, trying turning the car off and see if it stops for a while. More than likely it's a PCS issue. Cheap part, expensive install.

Cheap part, expensive install. Is there any other? I have come to the conclusion that, unless it shifts hard enough to cause head trauma, I am driving it until it dies... hopefully not before its payed for!
