'97 GTP (build date of 06/96) with 162K miles. She creaks and moans a little, but other than that is doing well...

98' GTP Coupe: 97,200 miles, and running great.

How long has other peoples rear brakes lasted? I replaced the fronts like 3 times, but am still on the original rears, and it looks like they still got plenty of life left? Is that normal? Though I was suprised I managed to get 60,000 miles out of the stock RS-As, cause I heard others only got 24,000 miles out of em.... I'm running Yokohama AVS Z rated tires now, and still got lots of tread left after 30,000 miles so far. I know I'm not that easy on the tires, cause my coworkers always scream whn I drive everyone for lunch, thinking I take corners too fast and such. There is also a murderous left turn where I work, so I end up smokin' the tires more often then I'd like wink Maybe the asphalt in Portland is just nice on the tires.

Does anyone know if its possible to sell tires back to a tire shop? I have two Michelin Energy MXV4Plus tires that I bought in a rush when I got a nail in my sidewalls, cause thats all they carried that fit. I only put like a 100 miles on em, before I got a set of the yokohamas. What's a reasonable price and way to offload em? (other than ebay, which I've had nothing but bad luck)

My stock brakes lastest till about 58K-which was pretty good considering I am 18!!! I just replaced them all with lifetime performance pads-now have almost 79K on the car and there is plenty of pad left. Hey Mark, 162k! You done a new tranny yet? Mines is going and I only have 79!

Duplicate post:

Regarding high mileage, I wondered just how far I could take an engine if it was just me operating it. I bought a 86 Olds new with the then new 3.8L engine. Drove it for 250,000+ miles, then had the car totaled when someone smacked my right rear quarter panel while I was backing out of my driveway (doesn't take much to total a 13 year old car with 250,000 miles on it).

The only engine work was a new cam sprocket at about 160,000 miles because the "plastic" teeth had given out and the cam chain slipped.

By the time I got to 200,000 miles, the car was using 1 quart of oil between oil changes which I did approximately every 5000 miles. My driving habits were easy on the accelerator (but not the top speed), and commuting 30 miles each way for most of my driving.

Only other things to give out were the power steering unit and the catalytic converter. That car served well even though it had one of the crappiest transmissions I've ever had (I nursed it along too). Smog checks showed it to stay WAY below the allowable limits all the way through.

So, while it wasn't a GP, the engine's are still the same. Actually, there isn't an engine made these days (by any name brand manufacturer) that isn't capable of 200,000+ miles if treated decently.

Regards, Gary in Sandy Eggo

What about the life span of our stock blowers? I hear rumors that they start making noises at 70k and over. Anyone heard this before? I just bought mine last week and it seems like there is a buzz/rattle type of noise coming from mine on the TB side. Please tell me this is normal.

when it comes to the roots style Eaton blower, they last !! but its the maintenance of them, or lack there of, that ruins them. Many otherns use the engine oil, but the Eaton is self contained and many neglect that even though its around $4.00 for a replacement of it. Replace your S/C oil every 2nd oil change ( if you "use" the S/C often ) and it will be fine.
