Is there a big difference at the track or just in performance between the 2dr GPs and the 4dr like what I have? Also, with my mods what should I expect at the track, because I ran twice and my numbers were not near what 1997grandprixgtpsaginawmi posted. Im not really sure exactly. Heres what is says Reaction .785 which is still sorry cause I could get like 7/10 of a second faster lol I 1 2.120 I 2 6.107 I 3 9.465 MPH (I3) 73.187 I 4 12.267 E.T 14.786 MPH 92.583 thats about it. I could prolly pull at 14 or maybe a 14.2 if I could get my reaction time down. I thought it was great though how trans ams were only pulling about .3 and .4 of a second better then me though aahh. Here is my times: http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m252/escapest01/untitled.jpg Also I received the OBD2 today. Messing around with that. I wanted basically to figure KR which I believe I got 0.0. I wanted to know what is the easiest way to use this scan tool and how to just do a quick run with it. By the way, I had a 120lb passenger on board, first time at the track, and the tires spun like mad. Do you all prefer manual shifting or just auto at the track?

Coupe and Sedan are only about 100lbs different. I've seen Coupes of the same year get taken by Sedans, and Vice Versa... It really depends on the car, and the driver. Your launch needs improving... Get your 60' times down to 2.1 and your ET's should improve by 2 tenths.... Maybe more without a passenger.. If you have a factory PCM you will benefit by shifting manually. Put it in 2 to start and manually shift to 3 at 93MPH. Since your trap speeds are around that, you will be shifting right in the traps. Just don't hit the rev limiter. If you have a reprogrammed PCM, just put it in 3 and go. What scan tool did you get????

No, If you've got a stock PCM and you put it in 3 your car will shift to 3 at well under the 5800 RPM rev limiter... Since I never look at the tach, I can't tell you the RPM's, I'm going to use MPH as an example. I believe if you go WOT in 3 or D your car will shift into 3rd at around 85MPH. If you manually shift, you can hold 2nd gear until around 93MPH(Rev limiter hits at 95MPH). This will give you some gains in your ET, and pending on how you work it, your MPH. When you start trapping at faster than 93MPH it begins a whole new train of thought at the big end.

I have the Alex Peper Scanner.
I've found the easiest way to do it, is to set it up before your drive.
Bring up the enhanced parameters and select supported and and send. When all the supported parameters are shown select the parameters you want to view... For instance I select KR, Mis1 through Mis6 and TG. Then I save it in my favorites. Next time you start your scanner select favorites/open and find whatever you named it. It will only show what you want to see. Peper has designed it to show misfires(among other things) with a drop down menu, but it still doesn't show KR, so if the dropdown menus don't show you wnat you want to see, you can set up your favorites to show you what you're looking for. The scanner is constantly recording, so when you get done making a run, you can stop scanning, give the file a name and go back to it later to view the results.

20gtp02, were those times when you were stock, because you should be running much faster than that. Also... your 60' times need work. You should feather the throttle to reduce wheelspin, because even if you have a low 14 - high 13 second car, you're gonna run 15's all day long if you gun it from a stop. Your R/T's do not count towards your ET, it's just that they can determine who the winner is if you're bracket racing. Of course anyhow, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get those down.

R/T doesnt effect final time at all.
Your car should be faster than that.

I just posted that because I found that and I made this thread and wanted to add it for future reference. Yah, those runs were no prep, gf in car, first time running, I think I had a 3.4 and tstat, plugs, wires, and ubend resonator. I spun like crazy and didn't know shit. I am going to try and run this wednesday, I expect in the 13's for sure! My buddy is going to come along and he has a Powertuner, so we should be golden!

It's funnier to beat the pants off people with a four door car loaded down with seven people.
And two door cars look weird! And .. their moms dress them funny!

I think color has more to do with how fast it looks than how many doors it has, especially when it's the SAME car. Like red looks faster than white.

I almost bought a 4dr Gtp but I really didn't want to, and guess what! 2dr it is, and silver is the color. The only thing I kinda don't like is the black leather!
The only 4dr car I ever owned was a 91 jaguar xj6 inline 6!!

Hey, we can't help it if the coupes have to boost their egos by telling themselves their cars are better. We're just setting the records straight.

Having 2 doors means less people can mooch a ride off me cuz they dont want to be cramped in the back seat. 2 doors looks better. Coupes offer more front seat leg room. (where it counts) 2 doors makes the car look sportier. Sports cars have 2 doors, not 4 doors. (I'm not saying that my GP is a sports car, but it is a sport coupe)
4 doors is the sign of a sensible vehicle and at this point in my life, I dont want a sensible vehicle.

Yeah, but if you had 4 doors, more girls would be willing to ride in the car. 4 doors make it easier to load a keg, cooler of meat, coals, and assorted sports stuff (volleyball net, football, whatever). 4 doors make it easier to crawl into your car and sleep it of till the morning. 4 doors means you dont hafta worry whether or not you have room to get in or out in those tiny bar/club parking lots.
I dont know, man, having more doors dont seem to be all that much of social suicide.

well I have a girlfriend so I'm not looking to have a bunch of girls in my car. That'll change if we break up though. The trunk is plenty big to fit stuff in and I'm used to squeezing into my car cuz of the long doors. My old car was a 95 monte carlo z34.
I didnt say 4 doors is social sucided. I just prefer to not have a bunch of people in my car. 1 or 2 is cool, but when I have more than that it bogs down the performance.

There are plenty of sedans that would put any GP to shame. Front seat leg room feels the same in a coupe. A Charger SRT-8 is a four-door and it is hardly sensible. Looks are subjective: a GP is a GP is a GP. You're gonna have to do better than that, 2-doors! Less doors, less good arguments.

I've always liked 2 door cars. Personal preference. If you want a 4 door, thats cool. I just think that 2 doors makes a good looking car look great.
I do have to disagree about the leg room. My friend has a 4 door GP and it doesnt have as much leg room up front. He comments to me about how he wishes that his was a 2 door cuz of the leg room.

see, having 2 doors even turns the owner into a killjoy...greater number of doors=cooler owner. That proves it, conversation over, I'll be in my trailer preparing for the autograph session.

Not right now, Arc, Belen's engine is one the floor. And, ya know what? I didnt think of it before you just mentioned Belen, but Firebirds do only have 2 doors. Technically 3, since one is a hatch, but I do own one of each. Am I a hypocrite? I think I need a new direction in life...lol

That is true. My dad and I can barely sit somewhat comfortable in the passenger seat. I rode in my buddies 99 Coupe lounged back and have plenty of room. But there is a possibility to move the 4dr passenger seat back with some time and skills.

Well, thankfully us "little door people" don't have to be saddled with a bench seat up front, or a column shifter; we get to retain some dignity.. Never really had a preference per se, other than I tend to like coupes that are a little...well, bigger ...

The GP coupes are longer than the sedans, therefore the coupes are bigger than the sedans.

but true "hot chicks" don't dig sedans...and besides...it's my car so if someone wants to ride in the back, they can go through the passenger side...and in my case...the only real time the back seat is used is when the car isn't moving... :p

I say, you take what you can get and go from there. I have $4500 total invested in the car (including the purchase price), how many of you can say that... and I have plenty of hot chicks who wanna ride!

the girls I was with (way long time ago) all preferred the sedans. Easier to get in and out of the back than gettin hung up on the seat belt. Coupes do exude the cavalier spirit, but that also could send the wrong message. If she's lookin for commitment and maturity, she'll be subconsciously lookin for the sedan. Nobody ever said you had to call her in the morning, though...

I am surprised that no one has mentioned that us sedan owners pay a heck of a lot less on insurance than you coupe guys. TAKE THAT!

I like the look of the coupe better but the sedan GP's are ok I guess it all depends on your needs, someone with kids and such are going to much more comfortable owning a sedan, I do'nt think in a used GP a sedan would be a deal breaker for me just learn to love what you've got .Chico.

I've walked away from a deal before. 1st reason - 4 doors. 2nd reason - red. I was looking for a 2-door Honda Accord, fully loaded, brand new. They didn't have any at the time and said there was a waitig list, but he did have a fully loaded red 4-door that was priced to sell. I then turned my attention to the Preludes, which I bought one of those instead.

sedans are better. more functional, no HUGE doors, less weight on the hinges, safer, easier to get in/out, easier to haul things, better looking, etc. Coups might be cool for small cars, but not big cars.

All you guys talkin about leg room...
Your shifter is on the floor, THAT'S the problem.
Column shifters are the way to play guys and...what was that? I'm the only one on the board with one!
Besides, I beat all of you, my car has seat belts for SIX!
4-door SE grandma car FTW!
And as far as insurance goes, doesn't that GTP-badge thingy cost more than taking 2 doors off?

I'm a fan of sedans because of their practicality, and I think coupe's doors look akward because they are huge. On a smaller car coupety is fine looking, not on our boats.
