Option 1: -WS6 hood, professionally blocked, prepped, and painted. Cost= ~$1000 Option 2: -Get sandpaper and a can of Duplicolor and poorly try to repaint the spots. Will not blend well and look like trash. Cost= ~$25 Option 3: -Lund stick-on hood scoops. Can of Duplicolor. Cheesy and easy to spot. No need to blend. Car DOES have the power to back up such a ricey mod. Cost= $75-80 I'm REALLY leaning toward the scoops. I think they would offer just the right amount of ricey-look to make people think my car is even slower than it is.

NO SCOOPS, try to sand it yourself and paint it, if that doesnt work do the hard way, get it done professionaly, but do NOT do the hood scoops

See how much a WS6 scoop would cost, with a shop molding it in and painting it. It might save you compared to a full aftermarket hood.

scoops never come out good, boosten said it all
i would go with a whole hood, i got mine for about 550, plus prep/paint. you can get an oem hood for ~250 if you cant fix the hood and dont need an aftermarket one

Here's the other thing though...
I have $2000. That's it. Every penny to my name, and $2000 is all I have.
Plus, I'm going to need about $500 of that to pay for labor and extras to get my car just running again.
And then, I'm going back to school in the fall.
Basically, I have absolutely no money left. I only come home with like $220 a week, and all but maybe $100 get's spent on living expenses.
I'd love to get a WS6 hood, but truth is, I can't afford ANYTHING anymore. The F.1 hood isn't bad but that's still like $750. And I'll never get the SD hood because I think it is uglier than sin.

My yard doesn't have any hoods in any condition to sell.
Either they have burnt to a crisp, or are smashed beyond all usage.
BTW, ordonez, sig's sick man, nice work!

I was going to say it looked a little big, but then remember that I'm used to reading the boards at 1600x1200 resolution on my computer, as opposed to 1024x768 on my gf's computer here...
Oh, um... if I was REALLY patient and careful and properly supplied, would I be able to paint a hood myself? I just read something on a turck forum about painting a fiberglass fender, it's the same material so I dunno...
Maybe get the stick-on scoops, cut holes in the hood, and use Bond-O to mold it into the hood?
I could just repaint the entire hood then, instead of trying to blend it. I know it won't match the rest of the car but what do oyu guys think?

Man if you had posted this just a little earlier I could have tried to get Shaun's (x1fastgtpz over ClubGP) WS6 hood but I sure it's gone by now. He's parting out his car and he lives around here so it wouldn't have been too far to come and pick up. Plus it was already painted red which you could run until you had more money to get it painted.

Lone, if you want to do this yourself, here's my take:
Find a shop that can match paint and put it in a spray can (or just mix it if you have a compressor). Get a compatible clear coat.
Leave the hood on the vehicle and just lay a tarp around it and under the edges to protect everything from overspray. Wet sand it with 600gr and be sure to get anything that is peeling off. If you have to, smear a little bondo glaze over the burn area and sand again to make it even. Then degrease and paint it. Wet sand again if you made any runs or got a lot of orange peel. Then hit it with clear. Then hit it with a buffer (cheap porter cable random orbital).
It might not be perfect, but if you take your time you should be fine. The color matching is the important part, hopefully they did their part and the color will match the already faded paint without blending. The worse that would happen is the hood is shinier than the rest of the car... but now you have a buffer to remedy that.

If you're in a bind financially, definetly take care of it yourself. What Rook said sounds pretty good.

a shop wont be able to match the color of your car 100% when you mix up paint they make it blendably close and i dont know how well you will be able to run paint in a rattle can over the hole hood because since its such a large area you will get zebra stripes, but if you do decide to repaint it
run 320 soft pad DA over the hole hood then if you have pits or chips you can fade them out or use glazing putty not body filler glazing putty sands better and it goes on smoother. then if you do have to putty then block the spots with 320 grit then soft pad 600 the hole hood then wax and grease remover then mask off areas toutch up skuffing your edges and then a coupple coats of self etch primer then just a reg primer surfacer if you need to block the primer then you use sealer then you can go with your paint

Whats the cheapest hood with scoops in it because like me every penny counts (WS6 scoop, etc.)

How about doing something cheap and custom, like heat extractors, or covering up a bad blend with stripes or decals? Your paint will be hard to match, golds and silvers (and variations like bronze) always are.

Y'know what, my birthday is in about a week... (Febuary 8th)
Maybe I can scrounge up some dough and get a hood.
I think as much as I like the WS6 hood, it will be too gaudy looking on my SE body. I think the F.1 hood is low-profile enough that it wouldn't look too bad.
Now, the one on PFYC, that's ram-air right?
Could I modify my existing airbox to use that? I mean, the SLP air box is nothing but a normal air box with a hole in the top right?
Then I could just get a drop-in style K&N filter and get rid of that gaudy HAI...

I agree the W6 hood would be a little much on an SE,and do'nt forget any hood you buy will still require painting (around $500) and unless you have experience trying to bond on hood scoops will probably not turn out good, another option is to go with the carbon fiber cowl hood from W-Body store you would'nt need to paint it ,if you do decide to work on your own hood and paint take the hood off and put it on saw horses, you can rent spray equipment and paint yourself although a hood is a difficult first project and in your case I would use a single stage paint.Chico(pops)

If you do decide to replace the hood, Ed Morad still has the Special Edition one for sale; just another option to consider...

None of the "ram-air" hoods are going to get you any performance gain. They dont do much of anything, pretty much a looks thing

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2010323/p-2010323/N-111+10201+600002538/c-10101

Well, my birthday is Feb. 8th.
I wonder if I can get enough money from the family to get me a new hood.
If I do, it's going to be the ram-air on pfyc.com.
I'd like to get one made by the guy in Eau Claire for $250 but with his gf breaking her ankle, I'm not going to hold my breath on it.
If I do get it, should I have it painted to match my car, painted a different color, or get the carbor fiber one, seeing as it's going to cost at least $200 to get it painted anyway.
I dunno about the carbon fiber though, I like the weight reduction but MAN are carbon fiber hoods ricey...

carbon fibre started in the racing world, ricers demolished it thinking a $600 CRX is a Laguna Seca road racing machine that will run 200MPH in the straights and pul 10G's on the skid padand hang corners at like 90MPH... Carbon fibre, kevlar, and fiberglass all started in auto racing, REAL auto racing, not 4 banger klasses, show the rice munkees in your town what CF really stands for, performance
i personally like Painted CF, my friend hates it but he is a ricer and has a 2.0 Turbo four banger he swears up and down will beat any GP or GTP on this forum and in the world, but then again, he thinks his moms 3.1 Camaro is fast and its falling apart, and his kar wont run, so you make the assumption

fake .... i wanna make functional hood scoops and then fiberglass all the ductwork down to an airbox such as like a k&n type setup ... but thats along way down the road...
if you do decide to redo your hood make shure you use a self etch on all the bare metal

NO STICK ON SCOOPS!!!!! Get hold of Ed. I've seen some Limeted Edition hoods/stock for sale every once in awhile for cheap and looked nice! shipping is like $150 tho, but it might be worth it.

It's going to be on hold until I find a job where I can make more than $8.15 an hour.
The parts stores don't carry my cars color, which means I'll have to have th epaint custom-made.
So that rules out the stick-on scoops or cheap repair.
Looks like the burn marks are going to stay for a while.
