Nope. Not a common thing for people to do, if ever. Really no point, the L67 can make the power of a N/A V8 for less than the hassle/costs.

but a 3.1 and an L67 cant make the same great sound that a N* can. You could try the 5.3L that GM puts in the GP GXP.

You can drop in an LS4, if you can find a wrecked GXP. There is a transverse mounted LS1 in a Monte somewhere (seen pics), but it required a custom adapter to mount and work.
Your better off with the L67, honestly. There is a RWD GP with an L67 running 8s. The only thing you gain with the V8 is exhaust rumble.

It's a guy on Club GP (the thing is 100% gutted with 4-link rear and huge slicks), but it exists.

I'm faster than a lightly modded GXP.

Apparently the GXP V8 will fit. Barely. Or so I hear. My references are quite knowledgeable. :]
My own personal opinion: L67 > V8
I've completely crossed over; I'd miss the supercharger whine. Besides, the L67 is perfectly capable of kicking a significant percentage of V8s out there to the curb.

The money and effort to transplant the GXP's LS4 into another GP wouldn't be worth it unless you really wanted the V8...
For the money you can mod the L67 to go a lot faster...

It's all well and good to be different; I'm an advocate for such, but it's only fair to let someone know when the way they want to go will be somewhat difficult and costly.
I think it would interesting to see a GXP engine in a 97-03. Someone else can work through the PITA process though, and most of us could still give it a run for it's money.

I almost did it, but backed off on account of the down time it'd have caused me along with the incompatibilities that would have had to be dealt with between the pcm and bcm...
I still think it'd have been one cool little drop in had I had the resources to do it... =D

i agree the L67 is def the best choice, i just like to see what u guys think. the N* is crap, my mom's had a few in her cadillac's. whenever my pop and i lined up, i'd blow the doors off it, but top end that motor will put up good a fight. they enhale gas though and i mean destroy.
I would love to do an LS1 with an M90 on it. i'm planing it out when this motor (if ever) shits out on me.
as of right now i have no reason to touch my GTX it beats most V8's with mods.

You'll have to get custom everything, and a lot of mods to handle the boost since LS1's are very high compression (for some reason I'm thinking they are 12:1). It'd be better to just buy a Procharger kit which is premade with all the components for it.

yeah... V8's like centrifugal blowers. they're easier to adapt (mount the unit, get a belt around it somehow, and run steel tubing to the intake) than doing the entire upper intake custom. i've seen a roots type supercharger on a GTO that seemed pretty crazy (and expensive).
