I have the 3" random tech downpipe with high flow cat, a resonator (at one point I took it out), and a pair of Super 40 flowmasters. I'm getting it all redone this weekend. The inside drone is way, way, way too much.

I've heard good things about Flowmaster Delta 50's. Is that a fairly non-restrictive muffler, with good sound, but not too loud?

If you guys could envision the ultimate grand prix ehaust, that had the best sound, but not too much of that v6 drone, what would it be?

Thanks guys. I do appreciate it. cheers

Have you tried moving your exhaust tips so the outlet is about 1 inch beyond the bumper cover? I did that and my drone was gone.

But yes 50's are quieter and you'll never get rid of that V-6 sound with out getting rid of the V-6.

is your resonator still in place?...you could probably keep the 40s by just adding a resonator in the stock location...if you need a 3in in/out, you could probably just add a glasspack where the resonator would go...I think Chico did the same thing to get rid of the drone in his car.

My Borla sounds great, not much drone...

Although it is a higher pitch and wish it would be lower frown

I swear my SE used to be a lower tone with it's custom dual flowmasters with Z28 chrome tips...

i'd put the resonator back in if you had it removed, i think that would help a lot. if not though, the delta series are supposed to be not as loud for the inside as out. they would be a good choice.

Keep your 40's and try adding resonated tips to kill your drone.

Couple items.

First off, I love the 3.8 engine. There is no getting rid of this car.

Second, I had the resonator out at one point, and then they put one back in. It didn't make much of a difference, but I also had them straighten my tips, but they had the tips more inside the bumper and it may have canceled each other out.

What are some good resonated tips that look good on our cars?

I like the look of the 4" hookers, I just got some cheaper tips (5" round resonated, hope theye dont look too big) on ebay, no not the REALLY cheap universal tips, they fit 2 1/2 and where only $25 for both.

any pics of it?
I was worried 4" was going to be too big, but when they came in and I put them on, I really liked it.
I'm really interested in seeing what some 5"er's would look like.

bryan,

Follow what Herc said. I listened and took his advice about extending the tips a bit further. I had to keep an eye out when I had the exhaust done so that it wouldn't stand out too far and look like crap. Imagine, my tips are just a bit out further the Austin's. It works!!!

The combo of the resonated tips and extending the tips works! There is a bit of drone but it's not too out of control. I like the drone because I can hear the FM go!!!

The hooker tips are just sweet. The guy who installed the exhaust, local guy who does awesome work, absolutely loved them! Then again, he is into the old school hot rod look.

Another thing you should take into consideration is the pipe size. What are you running? Stock? 2.5"? 3"? That has a mjor affect on the sound as well. I'm at 2.5" and sounds just right. It's not rispy or ricey, which was what I worried about.

I think the 5" would be too much and look like rice. Sorry!

I like the look of the 4" Hookers but I wish they came in an angle cut style.
