They just had a Tv spot about the recall on the news!

It said that letters will be mailed out to onwers when parts are ready for GM dealers to install.

Too late, IMHO. Way too many burned up vehicles. And as forms like this around, the word has gotten around to many about this. I am not having some fool touch my engine bay. I'll take free gaskets or whatever parts there is. I'll do the labor.

I have 206000 miles on my 99 GTP. I have already replaced the Gasket twice due to leaks and the last time I replaced the Valve cover because I couldn't get it to stop leaking. I felt that the cover itself may have been the problem (Warped??) Since then It has stayed perfectly dry. Wonder if they would consider helping me out with my past expense. I still have all the receipts.

wouldnt hurt to try, thats for sure. Not sure you'd get a full refund/reimbursement, but some thing's better than for naught.

La de da, just got a notice in the mail.

Wasn't it injectors that caused this, not oil leaking?

The problem was cars going up in flames long after shut down. Usually in peoples garages. I think GM got tired of paying for new houses so they came out with the recall for the oil leak. Fuel fires would be more "spontaneous".

I think we all just assumed it was the fuel lines.

Ace,

You can get them at just about anywhere, but I'd actually hit up the dealer for 'em. They aren't that much.

*Waits for his letter*

Slick, since apparently the dealership will INSPECT it for free if it's got the burning smell, I think I'm gonna try and do that this week. Maybe I'll pick them up, and holler at you early next week...?

Mine is constantly on fire with my flames! I wonder if they will even touch it?

lol I can see it now...some blonde GM mechanic opens the hood, sees the paint job, and slams the hood shut and calls the fire department... lol

I went to my dealer first thing this morning and spoke with the service manager (good friend, dealership manager, also good friend.I've known them for years.) My conversation and letter was the first they had heard of it. As of this morning they had recieved nothing from GM.

Relating to my earlier post, I will most likely recover my expenses already incurred fixing this problem before getting the notice.
