get a performance cat. lets say I just run the my grand prix without a cat. It will save me about 200 bucks if this is alright. Losing a little of gas mileage per gallon is alright. And screw global warming. I never really had the thought till now. I know id have to get a bung to reclip my o2 sensor right? so i dont get the engine code

You'd need an 02 simulator if that is what you mean.

You can spoof the o2 sensor with a 100k resistor from radio shack (about a buck) simply pull back the heat shield covering the wires to the sensor you will need to jump the resitor from the black with no stripe wire to the purple with a white stripe wire tape it all up and your good to go no ses light .Chico

FOUR things to note:

1) It is illegal to run your car without a convertor on it on the road (but who is going to know besides you?)

2) You will be hard pressed to find any auto shop that will "delte" the cat for you since they can get HEAVILY fined and even shut down for doing it

3) Come time for a car inspection (depending on what state you live in) you will HAVE to have a cat inplace to pass

4) There are many high flow high performance cats out there that you will lose only minimal (and I mean very very little) backpressure/horsepower from using.

is it really illegal to run your car without a cat even though Michigan doesnt have any vehicle inspection unless its a commercial vehicle?

It is federal law to have a cat on the car. Manufactures are required by law to warranty the cat for at least two years.

Recommend just pulling on a high flow cat.

Chances of getting caught? Low unless your car is towed, impounded, e.t.c. Nothing worse than getting huge fines just so you can stick a finger to the man with an unstoppable 3 horsepower increase.

Screw emissions... cut the cats off, if you have inspections, find some small performance shop, get it written off, and drive happily away!

Oh yeah, and Chunkee... I find it amusing, you stated "Two things to note..." and listed four lol

If memory serves me correctly (at least for Iowa) your car must have the exhaust when it left the factory. Another reason to build old hot rods! They didn't have cats back then. Heck most cars didn't have seatbelts.

FYI a Magnaflow cat runs $69 ,as far as hp gains no cat vs stock=9hp gain,no cat vs hi-flow cat=4hpgain, so for most a hi-flow cat would be the logical answer.Chico.
