It's not just the GTP's that have them. These days more cars have then than don't. Not sure if the covers provide more of a function than simply making the engine look clean and uncluttered. I'm old school, I want to see the engine. Guess that's what happens when you're raised on Mopar big blocks. Wonder if the new Hemi's and GTO have engine covers?

They help to reduce noise from the engine compartment. Plain and simple.

It's alternate purpose is aesthetics. When a car is in a showroom, they want the car to look good when the hood is up. To many non-car folks, an engine compartment looks cluttered and complex.

The ones that don't have a shroud already have a engine compartment that looks good and the buyer wants to see the engine. Examples: GTO & Mustang.

A GT with that "funny looking black hump" i.e., intake, may deter buyers.

Did you use any heat resistant paint for the engine cover ThunderBat? Or for anything else under the hood for that matter?

Someone mentioned something to me about a type of Ceramic Paint?? And what about Clear Coating it?

I used Krylon Fusion on everything under my hood. No problems so far.
I'm thinking about redoing my cover.

I used regular paint and it's time to re do mine it's peeling big time. Hey Bobby have you tried using the fusion paint as a primer and using a lacquer as the top cote? I was wondering if the lacquer will orange peel or fish eye.

I have not, but may try it and see what happens.
I want to put a GTP sticker on it then paint the cover white. Then go back and peel off all the stickers, stripes, letters, and numbers, which will be red underneath. Going for a white cover with red stripes and letters. Thinking about doing something white with the corner supports too. Maybe like you did yours, but white with red accents.
