So I haven't had any new projects in quite a while.

I'm considering modifying my stock headlights with Audi LED running lights.

Can anyone link me to a thread on removing the stock headlight lens so that I can get inside for my project? Thats the only thing I have never done before.

Bake them in the oven at 180* for 10 minutues? Not sure that's exactly what to do but it sounds about right. Wait for ordonez he's baked his before.

Just bake them on low heat. Mine were 185*ish. And check on them every few minutes after about 8-10 minutes and try and pry them apart.

I love the Audi lights like that.
However, I did notice they have it wired funky.
When the turn signal goes on, it shuts it off or something. Looks terrible. Think they should have it blink like a turn signal, be much cooler.

that will be cool mod if you can pull it off...or you could do projectors and wire up the halos as DRLs.

I'm getting the parts to start it today, I am thinking I might put a row of orange under the signal lights and have those flash but the whites would stay on constantly.

I also want the whites to either flash in sequence when the alarm is armed, or dim and stay on in low power mode overnight like my groundfx.

Projectors are too trendy (i hate the mazda 6 look) and there's no real custom work involved.

What do I used to seal the capsules back up????

Yeah those lights are sick..too bad they don't make them for other types of cars as like an aftermarket thing, like the projectors came to be.

I bet if you wait like a couple months they will have them being sold for GP's and stuff like the projectors. Good luck with your idea though, can't wait to see it.

Man, that would be so sick to do that. Specially if you make it were the car alarm is armed and the lights flash, that would be sick as well.

I ordered the acrylic rods to mount the LEDs, I also picked up the silicone from home depot. Should have everything I need to attempt it this weekend. I'm going to do it on my passenger side first because its bouncing and I need to remove it anyways to fix that.

Thank you for all the feedback so far, I have another question regarding the light dispersion - I cannot duplicate the look of the Audi light of course, thats machine made, my choices are:

- to rivet the acrylic with a dremel which is very time consuming and wont look perfect when its done but it will give it a uniform look and disperse the light to the sides.

- to rough sand the acrylic which will disperse the light making it easier to see from the sides but but will limit the distance it will be visible forward

- to leave the acrylic crystal clear which will allow for maximum forwards visibility forward but limited side visibility. Leaving it clear will also make the holes I drill for the LEDs visible.

When you cut your rods to length, cut slits every like 1/4" and only about 1/16" deep. Then after that use white reflective tape (with the glue on the reflective side) and wrap the back, bottom, and sides, that will push the light forward. Ater you drill your holes for your LEDS, use CLEAR NAIL POLISH!!! Also called "Top Coat". That will make the plastic crystal clear again.

Leave the man alone, he works hard for his money...

To be honest, never even thought about the clear nail polish, despite my exposure to my sister and wife getting primped and preened. Good catch.

Thats a good tip with the nail polish, but I think I'm just going to rough sand them until the top and front it opaque. Then ill mount the LEDs facing forward.

I am going to go a step further and mount two reverse LEDs that face into the headlight capsul to take advantage of the reflective material when the headlight isnt on. They will make a nice green glow behind the white LEDs. This will match my foglights with their green center

The rear facing LEDs will be painted black on the tops to keep the green from bleeding through... I already got the green LEDs, I'm still waiting on the white ones to ship.

I may do away with the orange turn signals and replace them with an orange LED bar if this ends up looking ok.

Here's my prototype! Removing the headlight lens was not cooperating so I cut it open with my dremel and melted it back together when I finished.

The white LEDs were much more bright than I was expecting, and as a result they really wash out the green LED even after I put the backing on to separate the light.

I wont get to build a second prototype until next weekend because I have finals next week. I plan to round the edges and curve the bar for the next set.

Here are pictures with my exposure setting as low as it goes:

Well it matches my foglights and ground fx. my favorite color is actually red but I had some trouble with LEOs when I went with that color scheme.

I personally say ditch green. As with all other aesthetically-oriented projects, it's your money, use it to please yourself, no one else.

IMO, the ones you have run together too much. The Audi ones have space in between and look like separate LED's, yours look like they are one bar of full light.

If that makes sense

Wow, that is so tight. I say keep it the way it is but is the green light legal on the road.

Looking good, cant wait to see the finished product.
Are you just going to have a bar at the bottom or curve it onto the headlamps side and the ones on the Audis?

Green isn't usually banned, but it depends on the state. Red/Blue on the front are never legal.

I don't care for the prototype, but maybe its just the camera exposure.
