The
transition in the GTP's is the 4T65-E, but on one site that
dealt with
the install of the oil cooler as well as the interceptor
specified that
there were two options that Pontiac installed in the 98's -
the 4T65-E
and the 4Y60-E. Do you know anything about this? My manual
does not
say anything about the actual numerical designation of the
transition
and I need to know due to the shifting problem I encounter
when the
fluid gets warm. I have installed the Auto Trans
Interceptor to
increase the fluid pressure. It is only for the 4T65-E and
it is right
now on the lowest setting. The problem is that I experience
a fairly
significant jerk when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd.
This concerns
me as I wonder what would happen if I increased the pressure
to higher
settings and it would feel like dropping the trany when I
shift. When I
start driving and the fluid is cold the shift is extremely
smooth. Does
that mean ( even with a complete fluid change ) that my
100,000 km trany
is just too old to install a module that would increase the
pressure of
the lines?

The 4T65E is found in models with the 3800 engine (the GTP gets the 4T65E-HD). SE models with the 3100 get the 4T60E.

As far as the auto trans interceptor, this seems to be the problem with it and why Thrasher discontinued work on theirs. Apparently the shifting is entirely too jerky and gets very annoying.

If you have the 3800 engine (thus the 4T65) get the Thrasher spring shift kit. To me, it's more of a logical step to firming shifts than artificially raising pressure by burderning the pumps and solonoids.

Thanks Ferb.
One question I have is a set of instructions for this work. The reason for me buying the interceptor was that I am somewhat reluctent to actually open up the tranny. Its my frontier that I am not so willing to cross . Do you know where I can get a set of install instructions on here (PFYC.com doesn't have them). Much appreciated.

The TEP shift kit is really easy to install. It doesn't require any more disassembly of the transmission other than the tranny pan and the accumulator housing. There isn't much in either of those that you can break.

http://www.fastgp.com/GTP/GTP_ShiftKit.html

That should help you understand the installation.

Good luck! and i completely understand apprehension to doing major work on the car. It took a while before i felt comfortable, but not i'm much happier knowing the work got done by someone who cares (myself).

can you tell me what would the adventage be of using 2-3 springs for both the 1-2 & 2-3 pistons? Is the 1-2 spring softer then the 2-3? What was your shifting like with both 2-3? Also you have the shift kit set on the hardest shift. Does the shift kit include all the possible levels of shifting? as I would like to set mine on soft side of medium.
Thanks for the site, exctremely cool!!!
